The world's biggest social networking site Facebook faces a unique challenge next week when it will possibly get its 500 millionth user worldwide and India may get its 10 millionth Facebook account holder.  And on May 31, hundreds of thousands of these folks are expected to quit their Facebook accounts. Not freeze, not suspend, just quit.

Because Facebook now discloses personal information to the public that Facebook users previously restricted. Facebook now discloses personal information to third parties that Facebook users previously did not make available. These changes violate user expectations, diminish user privacy, and contradict Facebook's own representations." These allegations coincide with Facebook making several changes to its privacy settings on April 22 this year. In fact, users were shocked to see 50 different settings with 170 options easily making it the most complicated privacy settings form on the Web.

But then do people really care about Privacy issues on sites like facebook? people are there for fun, chatting and making connections which they don't even know. So, what are your views on this people...

I really dont think people care about privacy issues, apart from few who don't want their information to be picked up by others on these platforms as such there will be a whole bunch of recruiters who will be headhunting and others will take these data for various purposes, but zuckerberg says that future will be  personalised experiences hence they are collecting so much data of a person, but I dont think people really give genuine information all the time and people most of the time hate filling these things on social networking sites for that matter...

This is the matter of individual person almost all website like facebook provide the necessary privacy control but who is using that control depends upon the wish and computer knowledge of that person. if people really care about their privacy they use the privacy tools or dont post anything private to social networking site. the level of privacy is the total matter of person itself and he know how should he will use it...untill there is a lack of general computer knowledge...

Facebook is the current trend in Social Media, which could not be beaten by even Google. People would bother their private informations getting leaked, but for this reason nobody would quit fqcebook. And even if they quit, they would create a new account and start everything fresh taking care of all privacy issues. This is the impact facebook has made among people active in social media, so there is no question of facebook losing their account holders. Regards, Anna George. Everyone wants privacy in his life. The level of privacy changes from people to people and place to place. as far as social networking sites are concerned there are many people who want privacy to such an extent that they use to secure their accounts by hiding their information from those who are not in their friend list. But it is not the only case most of the people have an open account that can be seen by anyone, that`s why I said it depends from person to person.

actually they don't in all these social networking sites what you will find is that ppl are updating even the slightest of detail they keep updating their status day in day out let any1 know about their whereabouts. They will tell you about their daily schedule, where they went what they will be doing So where does the question of privacy arise in first place...?And it is not wrong also as it helps them connect with their fans,well-wishers(in case they are celebrity)

i dont think social networking sites should have any privacy issue..social network means networking with the society..if privacy will be there then how people will meet new people..those are saying that privacy is important..why are they in the social network den? but yes...some sort privacy which i think is necessary is without the proper authorization do not use others profile..without consent or permission donot use take or use some ones private photos or information...

No. If you wanted to be so secure why are you on a SOCIAL networking site? Should have joined a prayer group or something.

No i don't think so. People join these social networking sites basically for fun and to overcome boredom. They don't always give the proper information about themselves. But other private things such as pictures, videos any important matters discussed in scrapbook or wall which is open to all or to the friends etc. are available. The problem is the users do not understand why the privacy should be maintained in the internet and what kind of problems can arise from such things. The users should be careful about sharing their private information in these type of social networking sites.

No, i don't think people are caring for Privacy issues on Facebook .  A person who want to care all these things is not required on the Facebook.  Everything is visible and on walls.  Yes some people use to carry it on with fake id, names and sex which is funny.

The researchers in Social Sciences may tell us what is happening in the mind of Nitizens specially the younger generation. But, surely the concept of "privacy" has changed this days at least on Internet. They who are adicted to social sites are ready to share their all informations to known and un-known members in the site/s as if this is another way of " marketing "... !!

Why such things may happen ? Perhaps such people have found new 'adventure' in sharing even otherwise private informations. And again this may bring more and more visitors with them and open up new avenues of enlarging friendship, contacts, business, advertisement and finally ... some prestige/glamour/  and ..... perhaps ... monetary-gain (?).

who cares  - you would get spammed eventually in some decade.  And the ehole idea  of a social Networking site is to be social.  I agree, people  dont care, let the  world of bts n bytes do what it does best - be a boon or/and disaster.
