YES THEY DO... MOST OF THE TIMES. ITS THE EMPLOYEES WHO DONT ! IF MARKETING IS A BOOK... SALES IS JUST A CHAPTER ! IF MARKETING IS TREE... SALES IS JUST A BRANCH ! IF MARKETING IS A MOVEMENT... SALES IS THE RESULT ! Most of the Employees are blissfully ignorant about the GLARING DIFFERENCE between Marketing & Sales. Marketing is the Policy maker, based on which Sales happens. A Marketing Man can be a Good Salesman... Can be, BUT a Salesman can never be a Good Marketing Man. Take care...

Most of the sales force do not understand the difference. Mktg : The systematic planning, implementation and control of a mix of business activities intended to bring buyers and sellers. It starts from the inception to close the deal. It is huge. But sales conclude once the goods moves from seller to buyer. Now a days Mktg., Advertisement & sales are inter related and inter dependant. Janardhanan, GM, Planet Advertising Pvt Ltd.

thx for the ref pooja - and yes, i agree with you. may we put it this way - "sales is getting rid of what you have - whereas marketing is having what you can get rid of". instead of comparing which is a bigger activity, this may help us segregate and differentiate the two. warm regards.

Some employers and employees really do not know what is the basic difference. This should be taught at entry level. I would like to share my experience of well known B school where I had gone for campus interview as an employer. I found more than 60% students did not know the basic difference.

without going into details i must say that the employer looks deaf and dumb once the sales are falling and then with consultation with others try and understand the concept of marketing. By adapting marketing once the down fall stops understands the importance of marketing and implement the same in the organisation. One should understand when the supply is equal or less than the demand that is sales and when the products are available more than the demand that is what marketing in short. So in marketing one should be innovative in order to grow. Take the case of packaged drinking water and one will understand.

The role of Marketing is more than ‘pitching’ but should be an act of listening, and now conversing with the market, and then connecting that feedback to the right teams internally. Also note that Sales is much more than just gathering leads, their role is to also listen, and provide solutions and represent the customer internally –both are important.

Sales focuses on ensuring consumer demand matches the products being produced. Mrketing encompasses many research and promotional activities to discover what products are wanted and to make potential customers aware of them. Generally, people confuse the two terms... Marketing focuses on the following points - - Discovering what product, service or idea customers want.
- Producing a product with the appropriate features and quality.
- Pricing the product correctly.
- Promoting the product; (why customers should buy it).
- Selling and delivering the product into the hands of the customer.
Selling is one activity of the entire marketing process. Selling is the act of persuading or influencing a customer to buy (actually exchange something of value for) a product or service....
