No ways there is a lot more than just video games but yes excessive use of video games can harm in other ways like it reduces physical activities, interaction time, eating habits and harms eyes.

I feel children who played a violent video game displayed a higher level of aggression than children who played a nonviolent games. So parents should select the types of games to buy and should fix timings to play.

It definitely does.Kids need to be physically active, socialize for physical and behavioral growth.Gaming makes them confined in one place.Even if it involves working their brains, it is mostly to be aggressive and competitive and that causes violent behavior with peers and parents.Eventually they become unsocial, rough and uncreative.Gaming could be educational as well but practically a very low percentage of kids would play those.Kids need to think and do creative activities for proper physical and mental growth.I have studied psychology and have done few case studies on children and would like to share this article from the AACAP. http://www.aacap.org/cs/root/facts_for_families/children_and_video_games_playing_with_violence

Neelam, you contradicted yourself, the things you said against video games impacts in a child's development goes to prove that your answer is actually a "YES" to the question posed here, I mean I totally respect your opinion but it seems you kinda agree to the idea but you also add other factors to child behavior and I think so too, but your answer should have been "YES" going by your explanation, because I opined the same way focusing only on the question's closed ended "YES" click and gave my bit of explanation supporting just the "YES" because you cannot support both sides in a debate...hey once again, I respect your opinion and I like the way you wrote it...

Of course, I've lived in the US for a fairly long time and I've seen many kids being influenced by the whole Playstation and Wii culture, and a lot of the games are inappropriate behavior patterns among certain age groups, my own nephew falls into such a group and my sister faces a lot of trouble coping with his attitude that was heavily influenced by certain characters in games. I know, I've seen it myself as witness, so "YES" it's true...

Depends on the Contents & theme of games. If theme/subject is good according sociaty rules then it may proove a great educational tool. Also time given to play such games should not be much.

There is no harm until and unless, person spending too much time in gaming. I have been playing game from last 12 years. No eye issues only some eye strains if play continuous. I do not use spectacles. It also helps me to focus of mind while sitting on computer. I have played all types of games

it would be very immature to blame video games in general for bad behaviour. You can be careful in what games your child is playing though.
