Most of the votes against this step is actually with the fear of increasing regional divide in India, that people are suffering badly here since ages. But on the contrary, in my opinion, this would act inversely. This would bring more people on the stage to discuss and clear misunderstandings. Afterall, internet helps communications, it's not pure business. Most of the people in india, are not able to share their views because : 1) They know their regional languages only. And so, an english internet is a terror. 2) Love for regional language. etc. . Afterall the regional divisions have been sown since ages, by indian politicians. People have become very egocentric about their culture, language and region. Things don't change suddenly. They would never talk, unless obstacles of communication are removed. Internet's tough attitude towords non-english, discourage people from using it. Let them start coming atleast on the stage of communications.

I agree with you Neelam. Lets try to make things simpler. Why, simply for emotion's sake make it so much more complicated for everyone? LET US INTEGRATE, NOT DIVIDE !

To summarize, my detailed version, I totally agree with Sachidanandan. To up keep and compete with big birds, we should NOT split our identity. Else, there may be vernacular problems and allied ones as it is happening with Blackberry.

In order to increase the internet reach to the rural masses, regional domain names are a first step in improving the reach. However, the added cost on account of infrastructure and other costs may hamper the move initially. But, it is inevitable that regional domain names will go forward in the near future as the internet is merging more and more with the daily life of an individual and one of the better ways of integrating and ensuring the spread of the internet is by having regional domain names (taking into account the Indian population which knows english (around 25% English speakers) and the Indian population which uses english (around 70%)..... Despite the fact that many users in India use English, regional domain names are attractive mainly on account of the fact that in India, diverse languages are spoken and many users may prefer to use regional domain names, (if available) even if they also have english domain names. Additionally, rural users will prefer to use only regional domain names.....

NOP! Never. In our country it becomes a trend to change the regional identity e.g. Madras to Chennai, Calcutta to Kolkata, Trivandrum to Travancore, Poona to Pune and so on. Let us not argue on any such issue where the State is burdened and the corrupt offices take the advantage. Why we need regional domains? When the whole world is at stone throw distance and has developed its own identity through domain names, let India have its own identity in a uniform manner. Due to incorporation of regional domain names the country may split to regional, as far as domains are concerned moreover it would be difficult and panicky to easily identify the domain and its location. Yes, an additional domain name for the country as 'bharat' can be introduced.
