don't u think the 'seniors' sitting as medical supdts in govt. hospitals need to retire and new breed to take their place? experience is important but aren't the right skills matter too..

yes ,change is necessary otherwise we will never have  a healthcare system reform itself.....we need a complete overhaul especially freedom from political interference!!

i beg to differ...u know its the same kind of arguement that even i would give when it comes to politics and the big question of whom to vote when all seem non deserving and corrupt. anyhow, health care sector relates to all of us...the policies made by the govt are not too bad i would say...rather their practice is twisted to meet vested ends by everyone. more over contributory to that is the fact that most of the medical supdtt are not skilled to lead and take important decisions; on top of that they dont have any education about how to 'try'to lead and achieve. the chalta hai attitude creeps in cos its the govt sector!!! no!! just think about the situation when either of us can land up in emergency of a govt hospital after an accident instead of going for the corporates because cops are inclined to do so...then what? every thing except the infrastructure will be their..the doctors filling files, nurses sitting around trying to refer u to nearest higher center as they do not have requisite medicines , equipment etc.. the situation is horrific....i have seen it myself, thats why i demand change!!!

Interesting topic, Thanks Mr. Ali for reference. Its a better idea. Just imagine poor patients gets almost same service as that of costly private institutions throgh this young medical administrators, definitely it will improve the bad state of our Govt hospitals. But as matter of fact when we can see this happens due to the so called red tapism and political interference.

Mr Abhijit, an intresting topic, I must say.

See the trouble is that a lot of people are looking into the administration of the Government Hospital who are from the old school of thought. Young people have got a new idea towards life. Unless new ideas and methods are introduced in Government hospitals it will be difficult for them to make any kind of growth. People mostly go to these hospitals coz they are cheap, and in many cases free, but if given an opportunity they will all turn towards privet hospitals if their pockets allow.

New people with new ideas are certainly needed, so that the over all productivity of the Hospital is increased. Old  and experienced people should take a back seat and guide the young generation.

If a person has qualification for Hospital Management that would indeed help him/her in better understanding the way to run a hospital

NO my experience in at KMC manipal is that a MBA hospital management does not have the humane touch, neither does he have experience which is called for in a tradition like medicine where we cannot always go by the book.

A background of clinical medicine I mean practise of at least 10yrs is essential. to handle the medical fraternity and the patients

no, my experience with young trained hospital administrators, is that they are inhuman and mannerless. this my experience at the kasturba hospital Manipal. By and large management trained people do need a good kick on their backside, again this is my opnion after counselling some of them during the course of my work... do excuse me I am not normally so nasty b

I agree with the point that a young fellow is more serious about what decision he takes as he may suffer its concequences for a much longer period but we cannot ignore the fact that Administration is about making better and acceptable decision effecting in a wider spectrum(That includes people of all domain and also for people who are even illiterate).

If we have more qualified more skilled person and on other hand  a more experienced person there would be a drastic difference in their leadership traits.

Administration is about change and that cannot be limited to skills or knowledge, it is also highly dependent on the social traits and framework of acceptability.

skill and knowledge are one of the basic pillars of administration but they single handedly does not rule over it.

It doesn't matter that in govt institution the administrator is young or old, the one which really matters is the attitude of the person & rediculous system where nobody is ready to take onus. By putting ayoung guy as a administrator you can not change the way of there operations & hurdles which generally everyone face.

Better the management should understand the responsibility & must show some huminity, because everyday several patient die due to the highly casual approach in govt hospitals.

Abhijit, no government sectors has certain policies and there there is a specific age limit for each position. And I don't think there is any creativity and special skill to be a medical administrator, where youngsters come and make some change. Even though if you replace a young employee he will do the same wht the old person was doing because it is a government sector. So no use changing the people ........ change the rules and policies !!!!!

Thanks............
