A Sting Operation is an operation designed to catch a person committing a crime by means of deception. A complicated confidence game planned and executed with great care. The word “sting” derives its origin from American usage to mean a police undercover operation designed to catch criminals. In more refined terms, it can be called Investigative Journalism or Undercover Journalism. Sting Operation is an information-gathering exercise; it looks for facts that are not easy to obtain by simple requests and searches, or those that are not easy to obtain by simple requests and searches, or those that are actively being kept secret for that matter.

But in some cases, they seriously violate the rules of journalism in the pursuit of profit and short-term sensationalism. Sting operations are just made to garner TRPs and increase the viewership, and creating scandals. So my question to you ppl is Do we really need Sting operations??? What do you think on this issue.....

Is there any choice, till we don't highlight any issue in ugly manner; any body notice.

If govt/ police/ politician are working for citizen then there is no need but if not then???

Sting Operation is good for whole society if it is not politically motivated. I always support sting operation if they are for noble cause.

Completely agree with Mr.Alok.If we don't highlight the wrong deeds of a person and not expose them in front of the general public then they will continue to do that again and again. We need to make sure that such elements are removed from our society for ever and for that we should do whatever it takes to uncover them.....all the corrupts and criminals should be exposed and severely dealt with so that no one ever dares to get involved in illegal things.

Yes, we need sting operations for the betterment of our society, but with some limits on. sting operator should not cross the line such as some times he or she instigates a person to commit a crime, which that person will not commit in normal situation.

any way i m in support for sting operations, our society had hugely benefited wid these operations in past times.

Yash, A sting operation will be felt mightly aginst whom it is carried out. But as with all the medium of communication as long as its being carried out with ample of research, facts, proofs and witha well defined objective its good, the moment a stinger's point of view gets in, it looses its value.Coz then there are chances that it would be prejudiced, biased or for a purpose of short term gain.

Yes,since it acts as a preventive measure for all round corruption with respect to India as there exists a general failure of governance in the overall system .

So Sting is king.

yash , being a mediaperson i agree with u sting operation is good enough but it should be done for healthy cause not for money making, honestly speaking no of stings are still done by reporters at micro level, not for society just to blackmail and earn huge amount of money.politicians are badly scared of this technique ,they exposed with in minutes and lost the SO CALLED image they earn from innocent GENERAL public.

I don't agree with u... not all the stings are politicaly motivated... there are few sting oparations which were in nation's interest... like sting on MPs taking bribe for asking questions in the parliament... sting on tihar jail was true... many officers were booked after that...

Sting is one of the tool for investigative journalism... its effective some time but I think we should maintain a balance in using it.

yes we need more sting operations to bring out the corrupt infront of people, and make sure that the people are beware of such things, and by this they will think more than twice before taking a bribe, and this will be a lesson to others who want to take bribe........

I feel sting operations are good. They help in nabbing the corrupt and also generate good, juicy news, so what's wrong with that?

Sting operations one way doing good by making politician not into get in to any corrupt practice but it has drawbacks also but in the long run we must not encourage these type of operations

I agree with you Yash for the time being sting operations are good

for our societies because  mostly people are  corrupted there

due to their lucrative  needs. so if they know sting operations

are doing by media its  good because media is still trustable

  expect other areas.

According to me Sting operations are good for the society in one way, beause they are exposing corruptions that are happening in the country and making sure that one stays clean and will think twice before doing any such thing, but then in a country like India where starting from a Peon to Politicians all are corrupted, so a proper system should be in place first to tackle such things and not leave to media to this sort of work, but for the time being Sting Operations are good...

No it is not good as such in the name of Sting operations News channels are violating rules and going beyond and creating a scandal by themselves and then reporting just to create short term sensation and by doing this they are seriously violating the laws.....
