Today's computer users may not need to run as many desktop applications as they did in the past, but there are still several apps whose cloud versions exist only as lightweight counterparts to the real deal.

Adobe's Photoshop is a great example of this - although there are several web based photo-editing apps, most would argue that they don't compare in either features or richness to their desktop counterpart. Then there is, of course, the staple: Microsoft Office. It will soon come in a web-flavored version called Microsoft Office Web Applications.

So users, do we really want or need a cloud OS?

These hybrid approaches to dealing with the cloud seems to imply that we're not entirely ready for a complete transition. Internet is not everywhere yet, unfortunately. So, a true cloud OS implementation also, is not easy. We first need ubiquitous broadband and Wi-Fi before a cloud OS can become a reality.

We may not need Cloud to-day but may require it tomorrow.

Anything new  may be a welcome .. we may try its utility, efficiency and its cost effectiveness. Time will say whether it's a success or not.

Cloud, being a new concept may not be completely "blacked out". On TooStep we expect to learn its pros and cons beforehand by experts.

Well put! I've been trying to figure out how to say this, but you've done it quite well for me. :)

One of my first thoughts about 'Chrome' was how it will tie in to Android. It seems quite interesting how this will be public not all that long before Android should be available. This will provide them with some early feedback which could still be applied to a new phone browser.

Cloud operating systems work as services that are provided over a network or the internet. It means that the system and the applications within it, reside on a server and are often used through the browser.

EyeOS is one such cloud operating system. A few weeks ago I installed it on my Ubuntu machine. The installation was very easy, simply unzip the files into your web root folder (you need to have the Apache and php packages installed), run the installation script, and you're good to go.
