Thanks for initiating such a wonderful debate Mr.Prakash

In my opinion the Indian auto component industry is one of India's sunrise industries with tremendous growth prospects. From a low-key supplier providing components to the domestic market alone, the industry has emerged as one of the key auto components centres in Asia and is today seen as a significant player in the global automotive supply chain. India is now a supplier of a range of high-value and critical automobile components to global auto makers such as General Motors, Toyota, Ford and Volkswagen, amongst others. The Indian automotive industry has a turnover of more than $18 billion (Rs.90,000 crore) today and expects to gain significantly through new tie-ups, partnerships and marketing initiatives. The auto sector is betting big as makers of luxury cars are increasingly looking at making India a sourcing hub for components, besides using more local components in cars for the domestic market.

I think we have a strong competition from China on the pricing however we surely have strong quality standards which can surely contribute for making India as the largest sourcing hub for Auto components

With FM keen to bring India as the preferred nation for sourcing of components would it be justified to have FTA agreements from SAARC countries

Partially agree since single source of components may result in a one time negotiation but an alternate source/parallel source would always result in competition in terms of quality ,technological upgradtion and most important the pricing. This could...
