I am myself working from home. I think its a better way to start a business, with limited capital. Your clientele will also increase. Only thing to think about is will you be able to devote your time fully without getting involved in household work.

horizontal office is a nice idea. i strongly support the work from home culture. the only argument against it could be that the boss will have less opportunity to enforce discipline which probably is a colonial hangout or a genetic disorder of the mind. as long as the cat catches rats , where it works from or how long it works should not matter. whether it works from its hole or fails to attend the daily roll call is not important at all.

Yes telecommuting is the best option, out of nine hours in office, hardly a person concentrate and work for only two to three hours at max. The rest is just wastage of time but, this is how the Corporates work thinking that it will usher them with more productivity. Working from home is more beneficial for the Company as well as for the employee, if you talk about employee friendly scenario, then this is the best option a Corporate can opt for and attrition will come down drastically, Telecommute is the best option for working women...

I did in my earlier org and doing it in my current org. If I don't have any improtant meetings or conference call with clients, then I would prefer to WFH. One thing I noticed, when you work from home, you tend to work more hours than at office. I don't know why?!

Working from Home is should be as Part time or freelance not as main job. It's like an extra income. But if you working from home, youm will miss lot of things in societies like you will get communication gap, you can't judge the people easily, you can't learn extra things, totally knowledge will be shut down.So working as part timer means YES otherwise NO.

Most, service oriented and paperwork jobs can be conducted from home. In this age of internet, ip telephony, smart phones..working from home can be cost saving for both employee and employer. Employee saves on commuting, employer saves on expensive office real estate. It should be encouraged. For the economy, this will lower traffic rush, fuel, pollution and also expensive real estate for offices.

Certain jobs require team work, where working from home does not help! Its better to be in a team - a joyful experience - rather than sulking at home amidst the near and dear ones who would not regard your seriousness in contemplating something to finish on time, but start bickering on something or the other expecting your attention on mundane issues!

It actually depends on what kind of work you do and also from person to person.I would however prefer working from home as you get to Spend a lot more time with your family. Also you can set your own hours and don't have to follow any dress code.It saves a lot of commuting time to and from work which gives a lot of free time ,less stress and which can be utilized for developing our hobbies and also for learning new things.

I actually work better from home although i do go to office to oversee what the staff is doing and on fixed days for more detailing, the value addition to my creativity is mostly while i am at home, there are no office distractions and no visitors to disturb my thought processes, strange as it may sound there is less to distract me at home than outside

Work from Home option creates a win - win situation. Its good for employee, employer and City environment also. As a employee you behave in a more professional way to keep your work complete and prove your worth by quality job with meeting time lines. As an employer you provide a relaxed work environment and motivate your employee for long term association with organization. Its good for your city as well as it helps in reducing Traffic, fuel consumption and pollution. Its only a myth that work from home results in less work output. In fact organizations should not promote culture of " live for working" and should understand that people "work for Living".

I do support Ms. Amrita, but I think it depends on the nature of the work. Further if a person can contribute better than other from than we should allow him to work from home & can report to the concerned office on regular basis. From employers point of view I can have my employees working longer by adding to their comfort zone.

- No , Pl. note working in the form of service and business is different.
- If you are doing job/service and you are being rewarded for the same than one has to work at prescribed location by the employer and that may be your home.
- But if it is a business and and you are the partner in that than mutual consent work can be done from home.
- Further if you are an employee and you want to do company work at your home that may be comfortable to you, but for company it is a matter of faith in individual. Because all tasks can not be performed at home. Some time home work may be there but that is different.
- Moreover it need references and resources both whatever the ocean of knowledge and communication you have through internet.
- The work which does not demand company premises will force for a subsidised rate.

I am against the idea of working from home. First of all one can not get that office atmosphere at home this means one will not be able to give 100% to the job in hand. Secondly home is a place to relax, to be with the family and do one personal interests or hobbies. It is a bad ides to mix profession with pleasure

If we can worship god always from home, we don't need temples. Working from home is similar. It blurs the difference between home and office and intrudes into private space. A vital part of work-Team effort goes missing. Most of us would agree that a vast majority of our buddies are collage and office friends. If we work from home, who will be my buddy??

The rising popularity of 'Work from home' appears to be a virtual threat for the so-called 'Big Bosses'who might have started thinking that their whips will soon lose power. I know that my comment of this sort will immensely please 'Work from home' supporters, but at the same time, it will make the FAKE Companies offering 'Work from home' jobs outstandingly happy getting a chance to add a newly found fool to their long list of 'Work More and Get Less' lovers.

You are right Amrita there are too many distraction while working from home. Actually it depends on every individual. Some can work in bedlam and noise while some cant. So it is upto each individual. For me nope, i prefer working in an office with people around, at least that would prevent me from snoozing too often.

Dear Amrita, Thanks for inviting me to share my views on this topic but I have a difference of opinion on the issue. I would not recommend working from Home for the reason that work life balance goes for a toss and most of the times work and sometimes personal life undergoes sacrifice. Yes you would be definitely putting more working hours as you efficiency is likely to drop in the comfortable environment of home. Keeping yourself disciplined is tougher. Yes, a day or two in a week kind of flexibility could do but not for all the days.

Prefering to work from home is a wise decision but it may not be wise practically because most of the offerings are fake and there is no assurance of payments. Also there are thousands of examples in the market where people are being cheated, though you will not find one wise most person who will reveal his/her experience of being cheated. Also can anybody name one reputed concern engaged in this field?

Amrita i would like to tell you that this theory is only be adopted in india because if we compare the working style of US and UK people they will never work at home because they are much more professional than us .if they have to work till 5"O" clock.so they will work only till 5"O" clock. their, if someone tell them to work on sunday again they will not work they will say this time is for my personal work .

It is not such a good idea at all becuz you have to meet the schedules and finish the work as per schedules, and your family will think you are postponing commitments to them when this freedom is given but they dont understand your work schedules so you will not be able to satisfy either your employer or your family. If you attend the office the times are fixed in a certain way and you can plan your free time for the family
