It’s a very old management mantra-Carrot & Stick method. Reward and Punishment, even a child understands it very well. Do a job well; you get a reward for it or else….. Corporate’s and management who have adopted this method have flourished, unfortunately the Governance of India is yet to adopt it and reap the benefits. Tnx for ref Kavitha.

Incentives in cash or kind or promotion is a very big morale booster motivating the person concerned to bring out the best in him.It is an encouragement and a recognition.

Well yes, ur experience might supersede my opinion, but i still believe what i say. Incentives have nurturing effect and even a caterpillar can only change if the situations suits. Transformation leads to change and Darwin told it a long time back. If ur value system to only emphasis on Trait ... well then India's Human -resource is going to be a doom. One requires to be visionary regarding the the development of the future. N please spare me the Basu- and Buddhadev govt. I have moved on from Kolkata too...i support the Naxals: wealth, knowledge has to shared. A team is called the best not for the leader only but the power of the leader to bring people together and deliver the results with the help of INCENTIVES. Incentives has been equated with money only but it is positive reinforcement at the end of the day. N yes i am aware of Psyche.

Incentive definitely bring in change, what is a more important discussion is what incentives? human beings are wired to learn from rewards, but the psyche's wants vary : which thus affects motivation and drive.

Incentive is that EXTRA which drives you to cover that EXTRA mile. Every where What is in it for me ..Mujhe kys.. maaja Kai.. enikku entanu.. enakku ennathu crops up and unless and until this is answered one does not work more..incentive in some form or other is essential to drive one forward

Yes, its important. Actually the thing is presently the world is kind of a needy in many ways, I mean everyone wants everything in life and to achieve that they work but here's the fact, they don't work at their potential i.e. how much and how better they can work. Its like corruption. No one work while they can but when they get something of their interest they work like any one can ever imagine. So to make a good thing out of them companies introduced this incentive thing and as we all can see, that everyone work but matter of the fact is they don't work for the company they work for their incentive and that's how the companies are getting their output. But I personally feel that this can't bring a change or anything whether the system or in any field. I think that thinking needs to be change not the process or anything. If one thinks not for its own but for the betterment of the system than we can say.....Yes, We can bring the change.

Yes Kavita, incentives are necessary to bring in certain changes, especially certain cash incentives from state/central govt has given/giving good results in social welfare areas such as education subsidy for single girl child family, financial assistance in marriage, postponement of child birth for first two years of marriage has yielded good result in controlling population & killing of girl child. Even utility services cos. r offering incentives on prompt payment, advance payment etc, upto 1% of the bill amount. No doubt that the incentives can bring back change unless it should reach the beneficiaries promptly & timely.

incentive is like a magical word, anyone hears it and the work starts. Well it also depends on what incentive is given for what change. Every aspect of our life we work on incentives be it consciously our sub-consciously. If the incentive is given to get some good change its ok, but now we find that most of the time the incentive is given to get the wrong thing done. a perfect example would be our political scenario. A lot more can be debated on this issue but less time in hand would surely visit this section again.

Incentive is very important for people to drive change. Besides, all these things need lots of money. When you need lots of money, the best way to get it is through capital investment by investors who are trying to make money. For their own greedy purpose, they are trying to make money. They give you money, you can use it to do the right thing.

This is variable. Actually if the requirement and expectation is for only self oriented then incentive is important there. But incentive is unimportant and unnecessary when the requirement and expectation are for vast and big issue, like humanity, country and for the world. For an employee it’s important but the work passionate people it’s not important. For the inventor, maker, creator it’s unimportant. But the competitor it’s important. To bring the change, important is your self awareness, your view, your dream, logical thought, your effort, dedication. But to accelerate the change incentive is important. Incentive is unimportant to change a dependent country to an independent country. But it is require to accelerate the development of that independent country

We are talking about the change. To understand how the changes takes place, One should understand the factors controlling human mind. The earth exist in a magnetic field where attractions and detractions controls the movement of earth and the life on the earth. If the magnetics fields are good enough to control earth to turn once in 24 hours and circle the sun in 365 days, the human mind and brain is also controlled by this magnetic field. If you observe the nature closely you will understand the birth and life on the earth is controlled by moon. The egg shape of the earth causes the change in magnetic field effect on the earth in due courses. The studies reveals that such changes takes place once in thousand yeas. To over come the magnetic field effect one should tame his brain and mind. taming the mind is a task full effort. Yoga is one of the good medium to develop this quality. Ever since the humanity is recorded, the general habit of human is that he is greedy and selfish. A man with out tamed brain and mind will blindly look for his personal gains only. Now we have some hope at this millennium. Due to the position of earth the magnetic field is being changed to give love energy instead of selfish energy. The mass evacuation of human life from the earth since 1996 is due to the brain and mind which is unable to accept the love and peace are destructed them self. So we are at the beginning of a good change on the earth. Let us hope for the best.

I write from my experience, Become an achiever and speak the world will listen as it takes something to become one. What you have done is stoning that’s what communist in India do or rather in west Bengal do. I have left west Bengal eight years ago. Do you know the meaning of the word psych, this makes you or breaks you, West Bengal is a broken state, the world knows it, it all for people like you. Best regards,

Incentive is like dangling a carrot in front of an unwilling ass. In the human world incentive is given to transform unwilling two legged ass’s to work horse's. Incentive is not the genesis (origin) of transformation (change), it’s like catalyst it does not bring change in the system. Ms. Sen the debate is about “can incentive bring change”? People who are achievers in life need no incentive they work since they love it, they are passion driven; in a commercial venture they normally get well paid. People who run quality commercial ventures are aware of these two categories. Like a caterpillar transforms into beautiful butter fly naturally, sometimes slogging ass’s transform to achiever, it is rare phenomenon but happens. Change is something sudden, transformation is the right word “Incentives can never bring transformation, it can push things quick, if you give good incentive to a chef in a hotel he may make more roti instead of 10 it may be 30, but not cake with the same dough. Cake needs different ingredient in the dough. If you look from the Country level then politicians are responsible, the control is with them. It was late Prime minister Sri Rajiv Gandhi who pioneered mobile, computer and internet technology to our country. Ruling party now is busy with Saffron terrorism, Zaffran (JK) terrorism, Naxsal terrorist etc. it’s like somehow hang around in the power corridor.

I don't think it will bring the desired change, we need right attitude in people to drive the change and not incentive in any form, incentive may spark of things in the beginning but, later it will create more greed and that will lead to further more problems. So than giving incentives, if we are able to make them think in a different way and show them the right picture surely they will change.
