In 80's Asia including Japan had accounted for just 7 percent of global auto sales. But the scene is changing now. It is estimated that by 2020 to 5 million vehicles sold per year and could rise to as much as 6 million!! The center of gravity of car market is shifting slowly but this does not mean US is not progressing. When we estimate our progress we don't account the progress our competitors are making. Nor do we know there calculationsa and estimations. So looking at the present scenario do you think India will be able to leave US behind in car market?

We are quite far away from developing our own cars. Today we are only becoming a manufacturing hub not a development hub. Once we are able to do it, then we can think if we can overtake US. We do not still encourage R & D in automobiles. We are only producing what someone else has developed. Pnce we develop indigenous capability to develop automobiles, we can think where we will be vis-a-vis US. When we are developing, US will also be developing. It is an uneven race at this moment. It will take a veryu long time for us to overtake US.

Yes ! definitely and the day is not far off. Only thing is India has to develop its R & D capabilities a bit more. Manufacturing alone cannot turn a country into a a mjor player. Its the R & D ability that would distinguish an also ran from a leader.

In that country where beer is expensive then diesel i.e. mostly used by farmers where CAR market rise is essential,i am not against the growth of industry i.e. actually benefits us but the main question is that its not necessary to increase the volumes of cars shows growth of economy. and i support for yes.

Indeed,India is now playing major role in world's automotive industry as major manufacturers of automotive parts and accessories ,but whatever we making or producing is just for commercial purpose or for business growth. This is the major difference bitween the leader and follower .Whereas, in USA automotive firms are ardently engaged in research and development for next generation products or can say they still claim their supremacy in this area .No doubt , USA or Europian countries are tough to auto industry and have new refined/economic technologies of auto interest under their belt.India has still to go miles in these domains (specially R&D) for claiming a fair share in the market .But till then Indian leaders like(M&M , TATA) can boost their profile as quality manufacturers and producers.

Yes, I can partially support Narasimhan's View. We were manufacturing other's desings. Now the atmosphere is changing. You can notice that products of TATA and M&M (Indian Players) are getting importance in international markets.

Moreover, the topic depends on the buying capacity of the people and we know that India is growing ecenomically. All the middle class people are willing to own a car. May be its difficult to overtake US in Luxury car segment. But i believe it will happen very soon in Passanger car & in SUV Segment.

And also we need to consider China on this..

When we look at the progress we have made we just look at what we have done ignoring what others are doing and not thinking what others can do. Right now we are not the leaders in this field and becoming one is an unsure situation. Only when we actually leave US behind or are somewhere near it then we can give a statement on it. Till then we should work hard and speak less.
