I am a bit in dilemma lately....one of my friend who was cribbing a lot in the past in a startup company, that he is getting paid very less, I am from this institute, I should be getting this kind of a salary n all, but he was learning a lot, but then that didn't deter him to jump to another company with some sort of experience and got a good package, and now again he is changing and now the salary is doubled again, but I changed just one company and not 2-3 like him, though not getting the salary like him, but getting a decent package, but not anywhere like him. But here there is more scope to learn and implement things as of I believe. where as in his case with all of his job hops he is getting more salary, and at the end of the day money matters.
I don't know, I have a very vague idea on this issue, but job hopping gives you the satisfactory part interms of money, but I don't think one will learn properly anything with constant job hopping, and if you are not learning anything in the first place, how will we even reach top. so, please share your thoughts on this people........
Thanks Kiran for referral but i have a different perspective. The Job hops are not at all the means to reach the top, but the excitement and challenges of the job and ultimately one's contribution to the organization.
Certain situations demand job hopping for growth and exposure. Especially in the initial few years , decision should be taken weighing the pros and cons in a wider aspect apart from monetary benefits. By

New ideas are generated, old ideas could be incorporated. I feel, job hopers will be on top. In many places, new employees are recognised better than the existing one. By

Yes. A must. But talent building is also essential. There are few who raised to top without job hopping, but many have gone to top by job hopping. Gone are the days of loyal employee etc. All empoyers look for new blood. They don't recognise existing employees unless one is really very very excellent. By

It is a good idea indeed, but time gap of hopping to be calculated out. If it is frequent, then it will be treated as negative attitude in future and will ruin carrier. By

i am a fresher in the industry and seriously don't now the actually effect of hopping, but never-the-less i feel there are different kind of hoppers in the world. some are the grasshopper.. who seeks the money (well reaching the top means more money to them) while others are like the rabbit, they hop for the glories opportunity to move places (fame) whereas their are ppl who hop to gain new experiences and self growth.. they are the kind with the skipping ropes.. (well for them top= self growth) stagnation kills. By

Kiran job hoping is a habit and I am sure such persons will never be happy whereever they are.
One really forgets how much s/he is learning in a start up company and such experience will be paid for handsomely at a latter stage.
I personally feel the job hoppers are not only doing harm to themselves but at the same time the output in the current company is also at the lowest level.
Hello Kiran, It all depends on person to person and the circumstances which he/she can decide about changing the job. of course in marketing this will happen to reach the top position. Even then talent and fit person only can able to stay and lead the company to profit making.
In today's job market, the demand and supply is not matching for job seekers. Reaching top by hopping the job is a way to grow faster with every new challenge. Changing a job itself is a challange in terms of coming out of your comfort zone and set a new challange. Meeting new manager, new management, new company, new team, new people and proving there and surviving is a big learning at times.
When u have enough expeirnce, there are people to offer you more. Sticking to same job, same company means you are blocking yourself. You don't want to take new challanges. Afraid of failure. The learning of one compnay is no useful if not applied in new place.
Over the course of the last 10 years or so, I've seen a constant numbing down of the workforce around me. A person is hired to do a job, and is discouraged to advance in any other direction but that exact job. And nothing else. When that particular job becomes obsolete, so does the person working it. Hence job hopping is the means of avoiding obsolescence, and to give some slope to the stalled learning curve.
On the other hand, one is supposed to advance in a career, and when it does not happen the only choice is to hop.
I guess to much of job hopping creates a very bad impression amongst the recruiter's......And in the long run no company would like to offer core positions to such " hoppers " By

HiKiran , my empathies are with you,i think you are feeling that you are lagging behind in rat race but it need not necessarily be .As long as you have your destination in front of you getting there would not be difficult . If you are getting knowledge from diffrent field which leads you to consultancy its fine to experiment but in longer run if you are satisfied with your work and there is mutual exchange in terms of benifits i really dont see any reson for you to hop and skip and jump . Moreover if you want to be expert in certain field jobhopping can go against it as you are just a rolling stone By

This is a decision one has to take based on what one is looking for to achieve. If making more money is the goal hopping may help but if stability and security is important then it is not the desired method. Sudden rise in pay packet is achieved by many on their risk taking capacity yet if they can carry the benefit for long while is suspect. Learning and gaining subject strengths requires patience and perseverance.
sometimes if we are paid less but if the recognition & job satisfaction is there then its good for health, experience, if our mind is happy we can analise things in a better way
Perseverance to goal is important. If you aim to reach a particular position, work hard and pursue continuously to achieve the target set where-ever you work (- be it the company same or diverse). If your goal directs you to change over, then obviously, to reach the set-goal , you can do so. To reach the goal, set smaller targets on your professional career. It may be, in the form of additional training, academic courses or acquiring different skills from different companies etc.Just hopping will only give you the intended purpose of the change over.
Relationships are definitely important but one wants to be successful and success brings happiness. Happiness which can be shared with the relations we have made..
You can say that money does not bring happiness but I want to ask "REALLY".. Think if you had no money what would you do? You would not be able to satisfy your needs. Anyone who does not earn sufficient money suffers from depression and lack of self...
