Who are we to decide whether Sachin should play or not, i think it is Sachin or the selectors to decide. Did he ask for anyone's permission when started playing cricket and what kind of a debate is this, I dont think he requires anyone's permission to play, if he has the fitness he would certainly play and the selectors will also allow him after all the cricket lovers enjoy watching him. Some people get older quickly and some do not so its about fitness if he is fit he would play and nobody can stop him.

I understand that he is a legend in cricket but we need to understand that he cant be play forever,...we as a nation have lot of talent and we can have many tendulkars produce...will he should play next world cup or not..i believe even he cant decide it one is there a place for him in the next world cup(what if there is more talent available) two. i think world cup is played more for thhe country than for an individual...so if sachin is deciding whether he should play the next world cup or not than why are we having a selection board...this is nothing to do with sachin as an idividual...he is a legend and i have no two thoughts about it....but we take our stand on certian things beyond our limits....

If Sachin satisfies 2 conditions then yes of course he should play. The conditions are that (a) he represents India in ALL ODIs that BCCI selects him - i.e. not selective games only, and (b) that he is selected on the basis of his current form at that time and not his reputation.

Why not ? If he is fit and in good form nothing should stop him from playing as long as he wants. Its not about cornering a place in the team but about playing well and being a match winner. Any day he is a match winner and better than the current crop of players. I dont think he is amongst those who will hand on to his place if he is not performing ! So, the decision on his retirement should be left to him.

Yes, it is suggested, he can be best utilized as long as he can deliver the goods. Its immaterial that, he blocks way for others. The skill he developed will find full potential in use. If he is unable to delivery due to physical inability. Its a different thing. Otherwise, make use of him is a wise thing. Even in film industry we see this practice.

'Why not' is the first thought which comes to my mind. Because we are in habit of seeing him win games for India. The other option is still more risky because if in case we fail to find anyone who can take the place of Sachin then team India would be in trouble. If his fitness level allows him to play .. we can ensure another great win!!

I believe he is a legend. He has set a very good example for Cricketing world and Society as a whole. Presently, it is the best time to announce his retirement as he has just bagged WC2011 for us, and has come to a social paradigm of great Goodwill. If he continues to play from here on, there are chances that his health may not support like past. Raw talents might be suppressed for him to be in team, or He may gradually lose the granduer he carries. It seems time has come for him to start sharing his Expertise in Fields of Cricket, rather than implementing them.

Should not. Fit or unfit, he does not deserve to be in the team. He has declared himself a professional model and not a professional cricketer in his income tax return - just to avoid taxes. So much for his love of the game and the country. He should be sacked from the team immediately. These people are turning out to be real role models to our children. Period.

I am neither for YES nor for NO. But am NO for this kind of debate. There is no point debating this.We are not Sachin to decide Sachin's career. Its only he who can decide how much to play and how long should he continue playing.

One learned Professor in human resources has rightly said that one should quit at an appropriate time while he or she is still on the zenith. One should not continue till the reputation/performance begins to deteriorate and the followers start asking when will he quit?
