Are young generations are driving the market these days? In India, with 60% of the population is less than 25 years of age and that is going to be so for the future. Also the youth and middle-aged form a very large consumer group, which itself has not been fully addressed. India being a major hub for foreign premium markets, do you think younger generations are more loyal to premium brands?

Younger generations are being loyal to premium brands just to raise and set their standards. Their living luxuries is increasing which tempts them to shift to premium brands. Moreover, Young are also getting paid heavily on job for which they can afford premium brands.

Often I get the feeling that this whole idea of customer loyalty is misplaced. How can a customer be loyal to a particular brand? A customer looks to a product as a means to satisfy her needs. So whichever product does that is preferred. Once there is a better product or the existing product somehow falls below the expectations of the customer in terms of its adequacy to satisfy needs the customer switches to other product. Loyalty means 'come-what-may-I-am-always-there-for-you'. I don't think there's anything like that with products. In today's dog-eat-dog world, loyalty to each other is fast finishing even among human beings!

Younger generations, i think, are more of a saving mentality. They do purchase brands, but only when the occasion demands. They are not always loyal to brands as such. They are more focused to future and saves whatever they get, but there are minor exeptions to these..
