Facebook, which never seems to be content with leaving well enough alone, now wants to push its more than 500 million members into dividing their big circles into smaller circles based on why they are connected with each friend in the first place.  With Groups, the new feature that Facebook began rolling out this week, family members won't be inundated with status updates on topics that only co-workers would understand

Facebook is hoping to solve what CEO Mark Zuckerberg called "the biggest problem in social networking," finding a way to replicate online how people organize themselves socially in the real world.

Really why are we again segregating the connections which is there in the first place in our connections into different groups, I think Facebook is going too far with this groups, yes people who have similar interests will join in together and do things in the real world, but replicating the same thing on social networking is very difficult, and the privacy concerns will also be more and simply facebook will loose steam with too many options at the moment.....

This is a new way to enhanced privacy control and I welcome it. Honestly this would help me keep away people I dont need near.

Puja, as a human being we like change!Natural becomes dull after some time.Now a days Yahoo /Rediff/Orkut has got two version(Classic and Updated).Have you experienced that?Orkut was rocking in India.But NOW  almost everyone got shifted to FB..Afterall group options is an additional benefit !!Why not Group option?

I think that there should be many different groups for people to socialize in but when you are constantly dividing groups into subgroups and more subgroups it just all becomes too confusing. Sometimes it can be a little too much.

It’s alright to change things up every once in a while to keep things fresh but many companies should be mindful of the changes that they want to make. Sometimes they need to rethink their strategy and how others feel about using their programs and services. Only time will tell if this is a good decision for Facebook.

The new Facebook groups option is another aspect of Facebook trying to make some changes without fully focusing on the privacy and individual aspects of the members belonging to the social network.

This may be a sticky issue and the outcome can only be known with the passage of time....
