Is the drama staged in RS by some political parties that are already in the downhill path, are out of sincere concern about women in dalit and minority communities or just gimmicks to hoodwink the Dalits and  minorities to gain some political mileage?

Women, having equal strength and equal rights, who prevented the political parties giving them deserving representation?

Since none of the political parties are serious about giving women their due representation in State assemblies and Parliament, Government has to step in and make it mandatory that at the least 33% seats shall be reserved for women.

Is not the uproar of the some political parties and the drama we saw in the Rajya sabha are aimed to project themselves as sole champions of the minority cause in the country? In their over enthusiasism  some members argued that even un-educated women should get opportunity to get elected to Lok Sabha as Law Makers of the country.

Who prevented these political parties in giving tickets proportionate to women population in the Assembly and General elections. The reservation means that a minimum of 33% seats shall be reserved for women and not limiting it to 33%. It definitely does not mean that the remaining 67% seats are reserved only for men.

Further, who prevents the political parties from allocating more seats for Dalits and minorities community women within or outsied the 33%, and see they win so that eligible number of these women also will reach the Assemblies and Parliament.

The main question is how much of all these are really practical.  First of all, there shall be 33% representation of women members in the party itself. Over 90% among common women being house wives, how many of them will become active poltical workers. Giving tickets to inactive women members will be injustice done to male members. Let us hope that in course of time India will need another constitution amendment to give mandatory reservation for men!!

The uproar is only lip service to please minority communities. Vs Those who oppose are sincere about the cause of minority.

In a close analysis of what had happened during the last 14 years of women's struggle for their legitimate rights, it is quite evident that none of the political parties are willing to accommodate more women in the Assemblies and Parliament.

Things have changed in Panchayat level only when it was made statutory. In fact any reservation, community based or gender wise is wrong as it infringes  the rights of others who are outside the  reservation.

Nevertheless, in an upper class and male dominated society, where even direct atrocities happening day to day against down trodden, dalits and women could not be effectively prevented, government has no choice other than giving out of the way special considerations to bring up their lot, even at the cost of infringing the legal rights of individual citizen.

A practical way to realize this dream of women is by more capable women contesting elections as independants in the reserved seats and people voting for them looking at their merits and not their political leanings.

Mr. Deepak,  I do not mean about the bill as it is, but about the uproar by various political parties. Women have equal rights, for which a bill itself is not required. It is just because their rights are getting ignored, it became necessary to provide reservation. Though 50% reservation is the right thing to do, there can be practical difficulties as of now as women education and thus their social environment in villages is yet to pick up.

What I meant is that the uproar by various political parties in the parliament is nothing but gimmics to show that each of them is the real saviours of women in dalit and minority communitites aiming the vote bank.

Charon taraf charchaon ka bazar garam tha. Bahas jari thi. Koi sacchai ko samne la raha tha to koi jhoot ko satya sabit karne ki koshish main laga tha. Vyartha ka paisa varbad ho raha tha. Sayad esaki ki taraf kisi ka koi dhyan nahin tha kyon ki esase vyapar mai kamai achhi ho rahi thi sath hei munafa and kala bajari bhi.

Hi Abraham, I don't think this will be just a lip service to please minority communities. This will motivate many womens to become great leaders. Earlier they where not given equal  opportunities to take part in politics as of men. So I hope this bill will give a new face to the minority communities and the politics as well.
