In Bpo its like 30 agent one manager, you can job hop increase salary, stay with the BPO intune and grow, but if you try to walk out after four five years life can be doomed i.e finding a job. Why? Indian business house run by Indians in India; like loop holes and short cut,( as cheat codes in pc games) they are lot of grey “things” and employees need to know how to play with it. This does not exist in BPO why? As it is an outsourced job of non core functions, from global reputed enterprize the client want to have max value in terms of economy (cheap labor) and international service level so employees have to follow stringent work flow process and schedules. Thank you Jyoti, an answer to you question.

Whether it is BPO or KPO, having a job there does not mean an end of the toad. Every industry has its own career ladder and it is upto the number of opportunities thrown in this sector that decides how big the ladder should be. If you indent for 2 positions, you will get 2 rungs of a ladder; if you indent for 10 the rungs increase accordingly. If you need a career, you need a BPO job that gives you that career by way of increased opportunities.

Well, a BPO job really shapes up careers and it adds value too. The BPO is basically the back hand of an organization where the analyzing/research/support part takes place, and this quite a kind of generalist kind of a work. In an investment bank or in a fund management house the financial analytics/analytical research is outsourced to some other firm, so that means this “other firm” becomes a BPO, isn’t it? And there are CFA and MBA guys are working as analysts, so? Wouldn’t it add value to their careers? Certainly it will. Transnational investment banks, PE firms usually works use these outsourced models.

Natteraja I am afraid I do not agree with your point of view. There are a lot of people work in night time all of them are healthy. BPO jobs not only create a career but helps one understand the world better.

I feel like thrashing anybody who says, ‘They don’t use their brain in BPO while working’. I want to ask then how much they use their brain. And whoever saying this will be doing some crap jobs in software sector out of compulsion and in the need of money. Also the one who is working in BPO will be more knowledgeable in solving problems in WINDOWS better than anybody. Just check with a guy who is working in BPO. Its not easy to survive in BPO too. One must need a good communication skills in English, quick thinking and lot of patience to explain things to the customer. And not many who are blaming the BPO jobs have these qualities. Also if the people cursing it were doing something they enjoy or else something that helps few people then I won’t say anything. But they will be slogging out in office just for money and their only activity for 24×7 is to curse the job they do.

Jyoti I agree with you. We must understand that the perception changes a good thing in to bad and vice versa. Since the working hours are not to the satisfaction of many hence the stigma. BPO is a full fledged job like any other organisation.

The burnout rate in BPSs are much higher than in other jobs. They need to bottle up their anger and frustration and not to show it to their clients and so end up getting high BP and other health disorders. They can be good PR men, HR professionals, marketing managers and other jobs which require a very high level of soft skills. BPO staff need to plan to shift their career after 2 or 3 years. They can get very attractive jobs but should not wait till they reach the burnout stage.

Even BPO market was also grown in last 3-4 years. Day by day it was open new center aslo. But now it is going down slowly and the value of BPO job is also going down slowly. In my opinion it is no Mr.Jyoti Kapoor since the night work culture is not a healthy one despite the fatty salary. Health is first important and without sound health what is the use of earning money.Of course the money is useful for the family members, but health deterioration can not accepted.

Definetly not with the present scenario, as most of the corporate houses also depend on their respective top management to take a call on any of the outsourcing business, frankly speaking the American style of functioning will never get into the grooves of the indian mindset, we are great learners, and learners only, never make a try on implementing it when it is required. Temperment is the key factor which the present generation does not possess. They need to be well trained for this. It is only a trial and error methods thats been happening. To me definetly not.
