According to Business Week, the average CEO of a major corporation made 42 times the average hourly worker's pay in 1980. By 1990 that had almost doubled to 85 times. In 2000, the average CEO salary reached an unbelievable 531 times that of the average hourly worker.

In my opinion CEO's are to be paid more compensation , As is the case with athletes and other individuals whose talents are rare and much prized, the CEO's pay package is calculated with an eye on the competition. Companies pay millions of dollars to a valuable CEO, one who they judge will produce wealth for the shareholders, in part so he will not be hired away by a competitor.

yes, I agree ceo is the key driver for any success of a Business unit, that does not mean that he takes the maximum pay 500 times of an average employee, I understand that he does have a lot of responsability to take the risk at the same time, company should defenitly need to reduce the  salary and  give more benefits like stock options  associated with it,

thanks

In my opinion ,,ceo have to be paid  good salaries , the amount of risk, decesions made, for the good, ofcourse his  past achievments to be elgible to become ceo of a company,A ceo is a person who takes the compay from local to global within few months, all it depends on the decesions and strategic plans as the success rates are always  better suited the organisation to  meet the objective, he is not paid for his work, but his  ideas which he implements it in an organisaiton for the long run.
