In the Indian police force today, there is a shortage of manpower. The Big state of Maharashtra has only 49,252 policemen. Due to obvious limitations of manpower, it is very problematic to bring all public places under security cover. Though the government had, time and again, stated about shortage of manpower while referring to existing vacancies of over 2.67 lakh of police personnel across the country.

The admission of difficulties in bringing all public places under police security highlights a different aspect of the problem. It also raises questions on the necessity of sparing nearly one lakh police personnel across the country for security to VVIPs at the cost of security to common people/public places. Because of all these shortage of police India is facing procems to stop terrorism internally.

So I would like to ask the users in this platform, does India need more police force?

India seriously needs more police force now since the less number in police force will increase the crime and terrorism inside the country resulting in the increase in the security threat of the country

That is good enough. We are tired of them standing on the roadside to grab money from wheelers and truckers. More of them will mean- more govt. paid looters.

India urgently needs a well-trained special police force to deal with cyber crimes and it must be equipped and trained to deal with all kinds of internet bugs, law minister Veerappa Moily said on Sunday.

"India does not have a specific police force to deal with cyber crimes and implementation of laws against crimes in the virtual world. India needs it urgently following the footsteps of US and South Korea," Moily said at an interactive seminar for judges, heads of police forces and prosecution of states here.

He said there were many impediments that needed to be overcome soon. While a vast majority of the police force or prosecutors in the country had no experience of tackling cyber crime, judges too lacked experience in appreciating evidence in such cases. As cyber crime knows no geographical boundary, the absence of international cooperation between police forces adds to the woes of victims and lets the culprit go scot free, he said.

It was attorney general G E Vahanvati who pointed out the danger potential of cyber crime as was shown by `Trojan horse' and `I love you' bug and said cyber crime was not limited to the web world but had been extended to mobile phones, which could be used to bombard a victim with messages and send illicit MMSes.

Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan said cyber crimes caused irreparable damage to the victims though it may not involve inflicting of physical pain. "Someone's bank account can be wiped off depriving him of life-long savings and others can face huge loss of reputation when his face is morphed and put in an obscene video on the net," he said while emphasising on sensitisation of the police, prosecutors and judiciary about the consequences of the crime.

Supreme Court judge and Cyber Law Enforcement Committee chairman, Justice Altamas Kabir, said the attending DGPs and judges should make efforts to understand the nitty-gritty of the anti-cyber crime law enacted by the country in the shape of IT Act, 2000. However, he said going by the growing ingenuity of cyber criminals, there was a need for expanding the definitions of various crimes listed in the law.

Yes, looking into increased crime rates India needs more police personnels. And lakhs of posts are vacant!! and there is shortage of man power?? the problem is all want  to work with MNC's sitting in Air-conditioned office, we lack motivtion to join such forces. There are so many umemployed youth they sholud be motivated and guided to join police force. And as we all know umemployed pepole are forced to indulge in crimes...How if they join police? - 'It will be like a mischievous student is made monitor of class, as our school teacher's use to do'

Let us imagine a world of non violence and with out crime. the violence and crime are created by human. Police men also human. Up to an extend the crime is supported by the police in India. It is better the salary paid to them is distributed the victims. our police force in all the state are corrupted. We have many evidence are in front of us on daily basis. So let us all pray for the Krishnan and Jesus to come back. Jaihind.

there is no doubt dat lot more policeman are required for providing security to such large policeman...but will it b sufficient step to provide security n all...i don't think so...the step wht should b taken is to skill the existing policeman n load them with sufficient modern equipments..also they should represent themselves as survivor of people rather involve in harassing people..

Increasing Police force with fat belly, lousy, corrupt, uneducated, indecent, stupid, non-dedicated men will never help in increasing the reputation of Indian police, or the country for that sake. It is the way they are mentored, educated, and corrected to perform their duty sincerely well that will matter most.
