India, though slowly; has started making its influence on the international policies of various countries and it has now been recognized as emerging developed country. Still its relations in international perspective are governed by the laws made by the British Govt. during its rule over India and time to time executed treaties, conventions and other agreements till date. India still not having any definite common and written international law which governs its relations with other countries. Does not India require a written and codified International law.

Yes we need that change, the rules of International Law in this country are not codified and are scattered in different enactments such as the Civil Procedure Code, the Contract Act, the Indian Succession Act, the Indian Divorce Act, the Special Marriage Act etc. The Courts in this country have so far tried to follow in these matters the English rules of International Law whether common law rules or statutory rules. The dependence on English Law even in matters which are purely personal, has however time and again been regretted. But nothing much has been done to remedy the situation. If I am not wrong the labours of the Law Commission poured in its 65th Report on this very subject have not fructified since April 1976, when the Report was submitted. It is better to form a core committee of specialists in the field of International Law which should prepare a comprehensive draft to suggest the said changes in legislation in the best possible way..........

Of course we need a codified international law if we want to compete with other powerful contries of the world. I know and expect Inshallah India will become super power with next 4-5 years. Furthermore the Globalisation requires us to codify the international law otherwise how long we remain dependant on the British Law?...

In the absence of our own Codified International Law we are stamping ourselves as still a "backward nation". I may be wrong, but I believe that India is the country having maximum numbers of codified laws in force, but the provisions are hardly invoked. It is surprising that inspite of recomendation of Law commission we are still sleeping, but when it comes to legislate any law, which is not worth or already available our legislators debate hotly to show the citizens that they are looking their welfare.... I request legislators to wake up and do some thing really needed....

India in today's international developments and relations with almost every country in the world requires a written and codified law so that it can make its international policies based upon such codified law. It will also provide that much international power in its sphere. When there is written international law in India, than it will really emerge as one of the internationally recognized nation. By virtue of written law, India can even make escape routes from the forced policies, treaties and conventions from most influential countries of the world by just saying that it does not fit in its international written law.
