My Answer is both YES and NO. Reason: We must define clearly what we call moral policing and then debate. In villages and small towns all elders were treated with same respect as parents and could intervene whenever a youngster was found straying in social behavior, now would this come under moral policing or not? And what wrong do you attach. It is easy to reject yet very difficult to cleanse and maintain. It is actually this difficulty that dissuades in not attaching value to own cultural values that may be reason to adopt the easy and culturally devoid Yankee way.

Yes, moral policing is required very much. There seems to be erosion of values & culture in every sphere of activitiy - be it the schools/colleges, universities, places of worship, work places and even some homes who simply follow the westerm methods of running the families. Basically, morality is a value that is to be imbibed from the childhood by the parents and teachers. As some one in this column said, when parents and teachers fail to imbibe these values in children, it becomes essential to teach them how to behave in private and public gatherings. Why name the organisations like Bajrang Dal, Sri Rama Sene, RSS and host of such organisations? Any organisation which keeps tab on these institutions is to be welcomed whole heartedly - whether they adopt sweeter or harsher mehtods. Do you accept some swamijis/yoga gurus/preachers in other religious sects indulging in sexual acts as they are or you support the people & organisations who protest such acts - may be rather violently? Can we just sit relaxed and ask the government to monitor everything?

pls do not blame any party and withdraw those names pls moral policing is a media hyper blown material.and pls refrain your selves from naming the parties as you may do not know the ground realities that has happened in the place of that event and also the circumstances.media ha s only seen from the camera and comment without going in details of deeper study of the cause and reactions . media has become more of useless jornalism without any positive impact on the society.it has not worked to uplift any social problem like lack of education, poverty or illiteracy. meddia is milking agent of this society and further more most of the sharholding of media is questionable?????????? this society consist of good and bad people .good people are termed on their behaviour in public or other wise. college students or youngster are free and never have been troubled in any were other than the event where it has happened.WHY? this platform is not correct to point certain sensitive issue because it involes many religion and its misuse of that extra freedom to some communities. no body can protect change in culture.no where in the world is a place with such diversity and unity and freedom

Till suct time that the subject of the word SEX is taboo, India will always have a moral police. The day these so called guardians of moral values stuff their dtiff collars right where ir hurts them we may be able to live a life that doesnt have public outcries!! Any incident or occuring in India has a huge political abrssion. Politicians will always be on the lookout for such things that they can with their people twist to their advantage and arm twist the common man along with the law makers of the society. Moral policing is not as though these people are watch dogs. These people are spurred by politicos who sieze an opportunity and create such hue and cry!! No normal person would do this in our society on his own self mind you!! The reason for being on the YES side is because I feel that its these POLITICOS who require policing. The policing of the law type and also the moral type.

there is a need of moral policing but that should come from parents or teachers, they have an issue.. then culture needs policing. because in the end of the day its them who define and introduce us to the culture. but not from some stranger claiminng to be custodian of our culture...

I agree with you Mr. Yash that what these people are doing are too much. They are too strict and doing activities which is more than required. But try to understand. Their intention is not wrong. They want to preserve our Indian culture, which, the modern day youth is destroying in the name of "Freedom". For that, they are taking strict actions in this regard, if they become too complacent then there will be a problem. And even our government will not do anything to preserve our culture which, in turn will destroy it. So, though it seems harsh & a bitter pill to swalow for youngsters, one needs such things to be in place to keep things on tab.

Dont follow any(Foreign and our) culture blindly. It is parents responsiblitiy to teach our culture to their kids. Moral policing is not required. These peoples are harming our culture. Take good habits from foreigners and teach them our good things from our culture.
