The country has been outraged by Moral policing, and we all know the Ram sene fiasco that happens time and again. And in the name of "protecting culture" these things has taken violent forms. Some of these groups are VHP, Bajrang dal, RSS etc.

And now this moral policing is also entering Schools & colleges where guards are being appointed by college authorities on keeping tabs on how ‘friendly’ students get on campus.  And the behaviour they are dead against is sitting too close in a corner of an empty classroom; displaying physical affection, laughing or hitting each other in a casual manner. So I would like to ask people on the platform like, Does Indian culture need moral policing? Do share your views on this.

Certainly, moral policing is requried. This is only because parents failed to teach the child:

1. What's the meaning of freedom.

2. So called Modern and free atitude of youth has a bad impact.

3. Effects western societly is facing because of so called freedom.

There are some many things and reasons why moral policing is required.

We don't need moral policing. In the name of protecting culture, these people are stopping all kinds of freedoms in our country. Playing footsie, stealing glances across the classroom, sharing a by-two coffee and stretching the afternoon in the canteen, a casual hug or a slap on the back, college memories are made of these. And by bringing moral policing into schools and colleges are robbing the youthful memory that one preserves all his/her life.

With all these activities happening around makes me to ask question like, are we staying in Taliban regime?

I am unable to understand that in this time when western countries are feeling terribly frustrated and brutally trashed because of the over liberalization and super modernization and actually are adopting our sublime, polite and  submissive Indian values, policies and tradition, we are fascinated towards their ones which are already an absurd and abstract matter and has got so many follies and drawbacks. Please, It's my most humble appeal you all respected people make me understand that why should not I boast of our rich, safest, secured, respectable and pious culture and tradition? If it becomes mandatory to get to extreme measures in protection of our culture and tradition, It has undoubtedly my wholehearted support. Moreover Just in:- Former Indian cricket coach has dared to comment on our Indian tradition, this is only because we let ourselves prone to get trashed and looked down. My respected fellow citizens of India please awake from this obnoxious sleep and take charge to spread and develop ourselves traditionally.

yes indian culture needs moral policing, but as our elders have taught us take good and leave the bad,,,,, all the western countries it is mandatory that after the age of 18 a person or a student should be independent interms of earning. some our people forget that and they are getting addicted to a free life style that makes no sense isnt it

Ha ha ha, nice dream to visualize, dil bah lane ke liye khayal acha hae. Who will bell the cat, dear friends. The guardians of culture and traditions are indulging in all sorts of blasphemous, embrassing activities, corruption, murder, nepotism, swindling to name a few. And you expect a change. Think about any sector, and you will stumble across same filth. 2G saw, corporate and politicos, and officers connive to plunder wealth. Judiciary is mum on all high profile cases, only dragging them for years. Kalmadi is out, Kanimozhi is out, Sukhram is out, Lallu still enjoying free air though he was allegedly involved in the fodder scam two decades back. Revolution is required to cleanse the rot..... http://wwwkrantirajiv-rajiv.blogspot.com/ Jai Hind

So long as we have not drawn a distinction between 'moral' and 'immoral', moral policing will continue to exist. The fundamental reason behind all these things are mainly due to aping western culture. In our country, we have over 80% population who are living in abject poverty and a sizeable population are illiterates and they are stuck to the dogmas and utopian ideas, how can you expect them to exonerate anyone who looks alien to their tradition and culture. If you raise every one to a level-playing field by making them understand what taboo is and what not and how should they respect each other's privacy and fundamental rights, then such incidents would diminish.

My Answer is both YES and NO.

Reason: We must define clearly what we call moral policing and then debate.

In villages and small towns all elders were treated with same respect as parents and could intervene whenever a youngster was found straying in social behavior, now would this come under moral policing or not? And what wrong do you attach.

It is easy to reject yet very difficult to cleanse and maintain. It is actually this difficulty that dissuades in not attaching value to own cultural values that may be reason to adopt the easy and culturally devoid Yankee way.

Yes, moral policing is required very much.  There seems to be erosion of values & culture in every sphere of activitiy - be it the schools/colleges, universities, places of worship, work places and even some homes who simply follow the westerm methods of running the families.  Basically, morality is a value that is to be imbibed from the childhood by the parents and teachers.  As some one in this column said, when parents and teachers fail to imbibe these values in children, it becomes essential to teach them how to behave in private and public gatherings. Why name the organisations like Bajrang Dal, Sri Rama Sene, RSS and host of such organisations?  Any organisation which keeps tab on these institutions is to be welcomed whole heartedly - whether they adopt sweeter or harsher mehtods.

Do you accept some swamijis/yoga gurus/preachers in other religious sects indulging in sexual acts as they are or you support the people & organisations who protest such acts - may be rather violently?  Can we just sit relaxed and ask the government to monitor everything?

pls do not blame any party and withdraw those names pls

moral policing is a media hyper blown material.and pls refrain your selves from naming the parties as you may do not know the ground realities that has happened in the place of that event and also the circumstances.media ha s only seen from the camera and comment without going in details of deeper study of the cause and reactions .

media has become more of useless jornalism without any positive impact on the society.it has not worked to uplift any social problem like lack of education, poverty or illiteracy. meddia is milking agent of this society and further more most of the sharholding of media is questionable??????????

this society consist of good and bad people .good people are termed on their behaviour in public or other wise.

college students or youngster are free and never have been troubled in any were other than the event where it has happened.WHY?

this platform is not correct to point certain sensitive issue because it involes many religion and its misuse of that extra freedom to some communities.

no body can protect change in culture.no where in the world is a place with such diversity and unity and freedom

Till suct time that the subject of the word SEX is taboo, India will always have a moral police. The day these so called guardians of moral values stuff their dtiff collars right where ir hurts them we may be able to live a life that doesnt have public outcries!!

Any incident or occuring in India has a huge political abrssion. Politicians will always be on the lookout for such things that they can with their people twist to their advantage and arm twist the common man along with the law makers of the society. Moral policing is not as though these people are watch dogs. These people are spurred by politicos who sieze an opportunity and create such hue and cry!!

No normal person would do this in our society on his own self mind you!!

The reason for being on the YES side is because I feel that its these POLITICOS who require policing. The policing of the law type  and also the moral type.

there is a need of moral policing but that should come from parents or teachers, they have an issue.. then culture needs policing. because in the end of the day its them who define and introduce us to the culture. but not from some stranger claiminng to be custodian of our culture...

I agree with you Mr. Yash that what these people are doing are too much. They are too strict and doing activities which is more than required. But try to understand. Their intention is not wrong. They want to preserve our Indian culture, which, the modern day youth is destroying in the name of "Freedom". For that, they are taking strict actions in this regard, if they become too complacent then there will be a problem. And even our government will not do anything to preserve our culture which, in turn will destroy it. So, though it seems harsh & a bitter pill to swalow for youngsters, one needs such things to be in place to keep things on tab.

The greatness of Indian Culture has been its tolerance and bigheartedness in the process of assimilation of positives of other culture. Thus moral policing is antithesis to our success as a culture. Positive debates is a must but not moral policing.

Give your argument...If we agree to moral policing, by these self appointed "moral policemen" we are opening a pandora's box of what promises to lead our country into a COMPLETELY intolerant state, not too different from our neighbours. In the name of tradition, how can one justify attacks on women ? How is it "traditional" to brutally attack women in name of morality? Agreeing that to a certain extent inappropriate behaviour in public should not be allowed, but if we even start punishing individuals for drinking, or for say wearing short clothes, what sort of Democracy can we actually call ourselves? A false one i would think. These sort of atrocious attacks are a violation of the core principles of freedom. No one, unless it directly affects them has any right to object, let alone attack any other citizen on the basis of their dressing or activities. This last statement of mine is also supported by a little book these so called "moral police" should read, its called The Constitution of India

Those things from our culture is good for our life & our society should have to follow. Apply that things are useful in todays world or not. Our culture is great. Dont follow any(Foreign and our) culture blindly. It is parents responsiblitiy to teach our culture to their kids. Moral policing is not required. These peoples are harming our culture. Take good habits from foreigners and teach them our good things from our culture.
