We are the one of the largest railway in the world and hence to manage this successfully we need technology. It is a fact that technology is never be full proof or after using technology the accident will not happen. But with the help of technology we are able to restrict them.

Deepak I agree with you art the same time there should be accountability when ever there is loss of life. Serious penal action if taken things may improve a little. We get to know so many things to day thanks to television. Otherwise we would have been in dark as usual.

Yes definitely. They can have a best disastrous management measures at quicker response time. Also, passengers need to know more about emergency escapes routine & precautions. Mere system element can not provide a solution, the passenger need to know the best possible way to get out, in case, any mishap happen. Passenger's awareness adds very positive impact on Disastrous Management.

Thanks,Deepak for showing concern to Train accidents. No body can say definite reasons of accident. Indian Railways need complete revamp in the system of operations. This has not been possible because of budgeted allocations. The reasons being railway passenger fares are highly subsidized of the order of approximately Rs 12000 crores. Railways on its part take measures to prevent accidents, but there are number of extraneous reasons which can not be explained about the accidents.

On the surface this looks like a human error, not really sure, we'll have to wait till the investigation is completed. But one thing is sure, nobody is going to loose their job.

Whether the mass transport system is undertaken by the government, private sector or government-private sector, the safety, security of it's patrons should be of primordial considerations. Plans and programs on maintenance should be initiated and religiously implemented; constant review and evalutation of the current plans and programs should be done. Then there is the issue of security, which would require constant review and updating to attune to the changing times. Transporting people or even cargo from origin to point of destination "in one piece," so to speak is the challenge to modern day operators of mass transport system.

The technical up gradation is vital. The railway should work on ZD right from the purchase of their parts, they should train the staff with the required level at all level. Y+Today can we imagine our trains running at the speed are running in China, Japan, taiwan, Germany France, etc?

The 157-year old Indian Railways, hauling over 13 million passengers daily and calling itself the "Lifeline of the Nation", is closely linked to the common man, with its heavily subsidized fares; it offers 25% to 75% fare concessions to 50 categories of travelers, from the physically and mentally impaired to patients traveling for medical treatment, war widows, the elderly and students, including those from overseas. China runs 91,000 km of train tracks, compared with India's 63,327 km, and both the state-owned behemoths are their country's single largest employer. The Indian Railways pay roll has over 1.6 million entries, with an additional 300,000 jobs to be filled. China's Ministry of Railways employs nearly 3.2 million people, more than the country's 2.3 million army troops. In contrast to the flashy, high-speed Chinese train dragon, the slower Indian elephant steadily trudges with a more down-to-earth outlook. The 2011 Railway budget, presented separately to parliament in February ahead of the general budget stressed enhancing passenger safety, such as improving signaling systems and installing safety-related technology such as anti-collision devices (ACD) and a train protection warning system (TPWS). What's the status now is a million dollar question now, as Didi deserted Railways to stake claim in the West Bengal State?

Offcourse , every single day some or the other misshapening takes place just because of the ignorance of railway department and this leads to disaster at a huge level.so this must be looked forward and some steps should be taken to reduce such number of accidents.

Kaliyamoorthy is right - a system alone cannot provide the best solution. Users need to know how to use the system, at least the emergency windows and doors. But an injured passenger will be unable to do this even if he wants to.

I am supporting Dipika as well.On the route where derailment occurred, there is one or 1 1/2 train every 3 minutes including freight trains. It meas there are about 500 trains running in 24 hours.Only one train has derailed. It may be due to human error, track imperfections, defective bogie. This could be established after findings are put up for action. The tragic part is that 57 casualties took place which can not be recompensed.

yes! Deepika you are absolute correct. This is society. blaming others is a fashion these days. If anything happened in system.everybody responsibility for that fault. But every body trying to escape from their fault. If every body take responsbility nothing happened to our system. when lallu was a rail way minister.he did something good for railways. But some thing more for his state like mamatha also did same thing.Every body don't think about nation.they are thinking about their state, their place, their family like that
