Well I may be the first one to support as well as oppose an Idea. I still believe that prior work experience do bring in a lot of practical knowledge and insights to the class; but then what I dont realise is how only freshers are considered (rather selected) for top marketing/finance jobs. The companies might disagree, but just ask top B School grad and s/he will agree that top FMCG/ Fin companies are very much averse to taking in people with work ex higher than 20 months. Now how does anyone explain this??

I somewhat disagree with asif, although i agree that experience gives the candidate a certain advantage over others but in case of MBA you don't necessarily need experience to back you up.

An MBA doesn't need an experience to enter the corporate world. Instead they will gain experience from the corporate world.
If an MBA should have experience to enter the corporate world, then we wouldn't have seen so many freshers out putting their future on a stake.

Experience adds confidence, knowledge, technical and soft skills to personality. MBA helps in polishing those skills and helps getting promoted. I feel its the best combination.

I do agree that "prior work experience helps a candidate to relate the class room teaching better". Though we gain some theoritical knowledge it doesnt help in corporate world. Because what we learnt will be different from what we going to experience.

In my opinion MBA is not the criteria for selecting candidate in the coporate world. They see the PERSON. They should have the person who can achieve the companys' target whether MBA or not.We can see that there are number of guys and girls at top level just because of their performance. If an MBA guy even if he is from IIM Ahemdabad doesnt achieve targets then he will naturally be thrown out of company. So in conclusion if an MBA candidate shows his potential in coporate world he will be welcomed if not then he is not the fit person for them. MBA is just an eligibility to try in coporate world for freshers, however its experience which matters. When it comes to interview they put MBA degree on side and INTER-VIEW the person

Yes, MBA person should get some experience from any small Co. and then only should enter into a Corporate world/field....degree matters but it will not give any practical experiences to a fresher MBA candidate, how to deal, how to behave, etc ? are very important for any new comer to learn/experienced, especially in HR profile there are lot many tasks an HR have to perform at a time to deal with them all person should carry some experience with him/her.

Experience here means 'application' of the 'knowledge' one has collected/ learnt during one's 'MBA'. When one enters the corporate world one soon realises that the 'blackboard of of corporate world' doesn't quite match the 'blackboard of MBA school' The theories doesn't often depict the real world business scenario in concrete. Ofcourse 'MBA' provides a stronge base and sets an ideology that helps understanding and may be even conquer the corporate world.
So, yes i do think work experience is necessary for MBA's.
