Teaching is a "Noble Profession", if its practiced in the right earnest! However, of late, over-commercialisation of education led to deceleration of this noble profession. Hence, this profession is getting under-estimated in comparison to banking and IT.

Yes todays young people don't want to take teaching as a career. They are going towards IT and financial services beacause of high pay. Indian army is also facing same problem in attracting the bright talent in officer cadre. we need to look at the benefit plan of teaching and try to make it attractive as other sectors.

Teaching profession have lack of qualified prospects.Generally professors get paid between 15k-25k.Then also graduates prefer clerical, back office or operations over Teaching in much lesser remuneration.

Most of the women, if given a choice, would take to teaching. Because it will give her time to attend to her family in addition to utilizing her skillsets. And so would some men who are willing to go to schools and colleges for limited hours and then take tuitions. The salary of College lecturers in UGC scale is higher than the salaries of officers of public sector banks. I am not comparing private and MNC banks because the pressure there is much, much higher.
