In a recent survey, it has been seen that regular gamers are fast and accurate information processors, not only during playtime, but in real-life situations as well. It has been seen that avid players got faster not only on their game of choice, but on a variety of unrelated lab tests of reaction time. Many sceptics agree that gamers are fast, but that they become less accurate as their speed of play increases. But in reality, gamers don't lose accuracy (in the game or in lab tests) as they get faster.

The scientists believe this is a result of the gamer's improved visual cognition. Playing video games enhances performance on mental rotation skills, visual and spatial memory, and tasks requiring divided attention. The scientists conclude that training with video games may serve to reduce gender differences in visual and spatial processing, and thwart some of the cognitive declines that come with aging, and now being a holiday season allover the world there is a surge in the sales of these computer games even more.

So users, do you also agree that Video games helps sharpens one's visual and cognitive skills?

it is an excuse to play these games.

Otherwise I think that these games are an addiction (HIDDEN & DANGEROUS,SIMS, TOMB RAIDER and some such games) that is like a viral. They also engross you to an extent where the visual stimulators act on your mental state and actually pull you in so deep that you become the character. I also have seen some changes around me to the extent that the person actually changed his own character to match his fav character from the game. I think its dangerous to be addicted to these games.

I also happen to have tried these vidoe games and as such do not advocate their EXTENSIVE USE!!

Yes, I agree to this fact as good / relevant games helps our brain to act fast on visuals. That's why simulators are even used in trainings for soldiers / pilots.

I do agree on the fact that video games are addictive but it helps people to increase the observational skills (looking at details). Corporate gaming industry makes use of such resources and use them as "Game Analysts" in companies.

reflex system , i agree ujjwal..

but what if the player thinks one step ahead of the game writer / animator ..

the player cannot add value to himself .. then i support makrand , it just becomes a time pass tool..

I agree with this report. While playing video games, mainly mission games, one has to make strategies and proper plan to approach. By regular playing of these games, his/her analytical and decisive skills automatically increases.He/She uses the same intelligence and tactics in his other fields and thus becomes more productive than other persons of his/her age.

i don't believe the statement as i never tried vgames but i can say that video games help in weakening eyesight and criminalization of society from the very root level which childhood and youth afterwards as most of the games which are popular amongst youth are full of violence and develope a kind of aggression in the youth.

I dont think that playing video games increases the sharpness..infact the sharpness lies inbuild to a person and what you are saying is the video games disclose that sharpness of a person. But there are more disadvantages than advantages in this approach. By playing physical games increase their attentiveness than video games.

I don't agree. Rather it make a user addicted. I've seen children addicted to video games are poor performers in their academics. And even if it increases the analytical skills, then also, what is the necessity of that skill which takes a child far from his academics? Also, these games results in many kinds of Neuro and Visual diseases...
