Does Yoga belong to India?

Yoga being the current fitness trend, now the question has risen about its ownership.  It is one of the most discussed subject between the practitioners of Yoga, which stoked the amber, out of which evolved a fierce debate.

Who owns Yoga? An Indian-American group kick started a campaign, “Take Back Yoga,” to expose Westerners with the truth that every single pose, followed in gyms, ashrams and spas, simply pertain to Hinduism.

So what do you think people. : Does Yoga belong to India ?

Without doubt yoga originated in India. These days some have commercialized it as business of health improvement. Nothing wrong in it. But a particular case of patent filing for yoga asans in US has created controversy.

Yes Yoga belongs to India. If Yoga does not comes from India then who else in the ancient world followed Sanskrit language and Hindu philosophy apart from Hindustanis. Yoga is a Sanskrit word from the Hindu philosophy dating back even before the religions of Christianity and Islamic were born.

Yoga originated in India by our ancient Rishis and Munis so Yoga is purely Indian and we have full right on it so I request all my Indian citizens to follow yoga and follow BABA RAMDEV and get and make use of all its benefits.KARE YOG RAHE NIROG

To back you up I think I must reveal the very psychology of America regarding patent-ship of great  things or arts or sciences.

First Stage :-America first praises you for your qualities so that you may get bullied and give it to America. like "Oh you are great in this and that, the things are indeed yours"

Second stage :- America declares your stuff as a global stuff in which you agree very easily. like "I think you are doing injustice to whole world as the goodness must prevail" here you are really trapped.

Third Stage :- America really works hard to spread the knowledge with a tag of "From America" so that world supports America for the stuff in future claiming of patent. Like "Oh!. Jesus. We have found out this rare knowledge with great efforts just for you, See how much we, Americans think of your well being"

Fourth Stage : BOOM!........... Now America will turn very possessive and rude towards you and will threaten you like anything. Like "See we do not consider this is yours it is we who have really worked hard on it and spread this globally, ask anyone from where have they came to know about this moreover we are the actual owner now"

 

This is a secret research done by me which is indeed shocking. 

We must fight for the patent of yoga to be ours and not anybody has rights on it as this is the heritage knowledge of Hindus in particular.

With all respects I am very sorry to say that you are following a very wrong person in the context of yoga as I personally believe that the yoga projected by him is a mere puppet show and nothing else now renowned Mr. BKS Iyengar has also pointed out some faults (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Renowned-yoga-guru-Iyengar-hits-out-at-Baba-Ramdev-style-of-yoga/articleshow/8944858.cms)

which seems very valid to me as I was also a student and at that time my guru didn't told me about the puppetry kind yoga because he knew that yoga is not a matter of joke and nobody has rights to modify the art or science of yoga. So STOP FOLLOWING START READING AND RESEARCHING which we Indians generally don't take the pain of.

Who the first yogi really was is lost in the sands of time, but the roots of Yoga can be traced as long as 5000 years back. The earliest reference to Yoga was found when archeological excavations where made in the Indus valley - the most powerful and influential civilization in the early antique period. This sophisticated culture developed around the Indus river and the long gone Sarasvati river in northern India. No doubt Yoga is belongs India.

Yoga is a property of Indian people.Our Rishis were practising yoga and Meditation as per our Scripture Bhagavad Gita. In Gita,Thyana Yogam is way to realise the divinity existing in each and every human Being. Lord Krishna says that everybody who is practising Thayanam on me is lastly reaching me. So No doubt that yoga is our property.

First of all,one needs to understand what is yoga.It is not a set of physical exercises.In its true form,it is evident from the scriptures that it originated in India.However,like any form of true knowledge and science,it can not remain confined to any country and it is truly global today.

Yoga belongs to India. As we know the roots of yoga are from India. People have been practising yoga in India from ages. If someone says that its not a part of India then it would not be right. As we know all the Yogi s have been from India, So hence my opinion would be that yoga belongs to India .

Aaah! What an interesting topic, Kavitha! 

For the benefit of humanity-at-large, there are some topics that should remain open knowledge  such as - Yoga; Medicine (all varieties); Self-defense (Kalaripayattu, Kung Fu, Karate, etc.); Basic Science, Engineering, and Technology.

Programming is already Open due to many far-thinking people like Richard Stallman and Linus Torvalds.

We cannot say that yoga belongs to India just by the saying that the Yogi s and more number of people in India practice yoga. This is not justifiable. To prove that yoga belongs to India there should be facts not just by verbally saying it.
