A grand idea. This is also a 'gift' for the Nitizens. Frankly, after 12 weeks, if downloading is legally permitted, no big harm for the Box-offices. Most times, who have viewed the film in theaters, will go in for downloads. Or, a financial arrangement may be sorted out with netChannels by the producer for such 'publications'.

Absolutely, this strategy is like Giving Insulin to a Diabetic, wherein the disease (in case of Movies its Piracy) comes under Control. There is no Permanent cure to Piracy & Diabetes, they can only be controlled through Precautions.

It is a strategy to curb piracy. Not stop it. The lure of money is very high for it to stop cpmpletely. By announcing a LEGAL download what the producers have assured that it is trusted conten in quality and sound, so the filmis who watch pirated cd's for kinks and kicks will not get their jollies this time as their own 'customers' would waut for 12 weeks and od the needful. The only driver here being an assurance of good quality print and unhindered sound. If this process meets with reasonable success, I believe that the B Towners will make a mad dash at this way and make full use of it. Good debate here... :)

it will certainly help prevent piracy. Just a thought, another approach could be to allow download of DRM version of movie to registered subscribers at a small fee from the films official website even earlier that 12 weeks. Similar to audible audio books...

i believe it will help them get the movie successful but not kill privacy, it will limit it too a extent, Killing piracy is too big a task to accomplish. IT's nice to see them adopt the Open concept ,I hope others follow suite , People won't wait that long but will certainly download it just to keep a good quality print movie in their collection (legally) .isn't this good for a change ?? The day is not far when we will have high broadband connections to our TV and pay a little amount on youtube /IPTV and watch the flim the instant it has been released,..and movie like these will help that to come soon ..

Yes,especially since the pirated CDs/DVDs are available within the first week itself, and sometimes earlier if one is willing to pay a higher price.I also have my doubts whether they will provide the full version on you tube and for how long as providing download for 2-3 GB movie is no easy task especially if the audience is the size of India.ps- I am supporting Sonamji`s last statement where she is asking for an earlier release than 12 weeks.

Definetly it is good step to kill piracy. If any one provide the facility to download movies legally then i dont think so that people are going through wrong way.According to my opinion when people got a authentic direction then it is normally human mentality that people are going through thats way and this will surely restrict us to goes in wrong direction.

we have to wait for 12 weeks to watch a movie?what vidhu vinod chopra said this legally downloadable movie from youtube is for those who cant bear the multiplex rates! instead of reducing the ticket fare n attracting more n more audiences to the theatres, he is in turn promoting piracy. at the time of youtube release happens almost all of cinegoers will have a HQ print of this movie with them and would have seen it n no. of times.what he wants is money. his intent is not to stop piracy!

it is definitely not going to stop piracy.original prints can be downloaded only from a few sites.People want to watch the movie and enjoy it.then they are ready to compromise with print quality. Moreover, enabling them to download online is just like giving keys of your house to the theives

The idea might cause a dent to the existing market of piracy. However, 12 weeks is too long for movie fans to wait for it.

No Piracy will still occur, go to torrentz.com and search for it now u will still get at file of more than 700 MB waiting to be downloaded now. Piracy can't be stopped unless we r aware of it and check the source. 3 months is really a long time and surely no one is going to watch a film in such a long time when it is available in other website within a few hours after the film is released.

yes i agree with ujjval that 84 days is a very long time especially with the pace at which movies get released nowadays. So someone who doesnt want to pay anyways would rather buy a pirated DVD now ( that too with 2 to 3 more movies ) than downloading it later. If this time is kept somewhere close to 3 weeks then it might cause some reduction.
