The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has mandated that all payments for online transactions be credited directly to merchants, instead of getting cleared by intermediaries such as CC Avenue and Paypal. The new measure will ensure that the e-payments made by customers are remitted to the accounts of the merchants who have supplied the goods and services without undue delay.

Currently, until a payment is authorised and processed by intermediaries, a transaction is not completed. CC Avenue, BillDesk, Direc-Pay, ICICI PaySeal and Paypal are among major payment gateways in India.

Will this move create any impact on e-commerce?

I think this is a good move, in terms of delivery times and simplicy of process.

But, as always, there is another side which is that there is no third party, trusted by both parts, to assure that the transaction will go smoothly and without any problems.

I think that, going this way, the central bank or the regulation authority MUST step in and become the necessary referee for any dispute in any transaction.

I believe this will be a good move as it will give more value to the consumers, by delivering the goods within 3 days, which use to take around a week before. Even from the merchants point of view, this move is good as they don't have to keep an account with the intermediaries. Previously, there use to be delay in transferring money to the merchants.

But in the case of security of transactions, I still have a doubt, when it was through intermediaries, they used to pay the merchant after the consumer received his products. And the chance of the merchant not delivering product to consumers or non-payment by aggregators to merchants was mnimum.
