Economic System of the Kingdom of God

In the Kingdom of God there will be a new drive and a motivation. This will be a driving force of an entirely new economic system from what the earth has seen.

Today the world economic systems are made up of a system of greed, selfishness, and a striving to win at all costs. All prestige, integrity, and credibility is based on ones ability to gain wealth. Today every citizen is placed in a position to compete with all the other citizens of the world for the basics of survival, as well as the wealth and abundance.

Under this system ones integrity is not an asset but a liability. Ones integrity costs financially, if ones is to keep his personal high values.

Although this system is a motivation for greed and dishonesty, it has been the inspiration that has led to the worlds inventions and technologies of today. Notice all the industries of defense and preparation of war that have built the economies of the world.

At first glance this looks like a wonderful system and many argue that the free enterprise system is the best system and the only one that really works for the world economies. The claim is made that this system has raised the living standards of all people. In reality it has created an elitist system.

Although the Bible says that money is the root of all evil this system is motivated by the love of money. Let us investigate to see what the results have been?

The first thing we see is that there is a large gap between those that have wealth and power, and those who have nothing in the way of material things, no power, or personal influence.

This cannot be done without the help of a spiritual change and elimination of religious titles.

Hey Gary,

I appreciate what you are doing and value your opinion. WIth this classifier, are you kidding when you say that spiritualism is going to solve this. I find it hard to agree as:

  1. Historically when people had more faith in religion, the situation was the same.
  2. It is incentives and opportunity that drive human behavior and because of political and selfish interests, this is not shared with entire world. Faith will not kill greed and selfishness. It is a good theory but has not ever proven true.

What you are doing is wonderful, people with more faith in God, but one has to understand that the systems expecially the one that works like developed world they have the cmplimentary value thesis like lessening 'moral hazards' and nullifying "adverse selection" when designing policies.

Hoping to "endow" ones citizen is no mean or Godless direction for the political elites of any nation. What one should strive to achieve in the words of Alan Greenspan is very true, "one should strive not to make abberations to ones own internal self, one should try to do and achieve what is just". Policies that enahances this philosophies are not Godless.

So striving to make wealth for oneself and for ones loved ones is not a Godless proposition it is a need that lives with us as long as we are alive. So if one tries to say that pursuit of making wealth is Godless, then what else is the alternative. Can we create a science out of relegion, I don't think so.

I think the problem one has to reconcile with is even God's ways had been interpreted and executed as science, say social sciences and some times things go wrong which is not because the methods applied are entirely Godless, but may be because there is greater objective to be achieved for humanity in the long run. One cannot imagine a world where relegion is the only way to adminster lively hood to masses though it is a covetable solution but farfetched due to lot of factors beyond the control of humans.

I will also suggest that phiolsophers identify "reason", "individualism" and "heightened interest in oneself" are modalities one can pursue and incorporate to be meaningful in ones life. I think this excludes selfishness and greed since all three are conjunctives. When one follows only factors of this triplets then even philosophy not the Kantian type fails God and leads to situation you abhor.

I am a deeply devout person, yet I can not believe that spirituality will change the economic ills by cutting at the root of greed, selfishness etc. To be sure I am not a communist either.

Money is a common denominator for all and hence is a measure of success in addition to the comforts, status etc it can buy. However, no one ever asks how that was acquired. My point is money washes away all taints of greed/selfishness etc, as long it has not been acquired by crimnal means.

How many things all of us - normal, decent people - do to get our everyday work done without any compunction which we know will not be acceptable to a spiritualy minded person? We somehow conveniently detach ourselves from such tasks and carry on with the things we do because the job demands it and we are not doing it for ourselves. Yes. We ARE doing it for ourselves, for the salary we take. (A paid assasin can not say he has no compunction in killing since he was just doing a job). Such small things eventually snow-ball into the monster evils we are facing - inequality, discrimination, exploitation etc. Since the person is earning money leagally, his conscience is clear even if it is hurting a lots of weak and defenseless people; he is perhaps not even aware of it!

We have made a system where we not only earn the money but also pass it on to descendants thereby depriving the descendants of the have-nots of any opportunity to compete on a level field. I do recognise that there is no viable alternative to this situation.

The greatest qualtiy/trait Humans have which no other living things have is altruism - care for another of its own kind. But now we are able to suppress that supreme quality in us with money. How else could we explain as to why we don't help the indigent person we see lurking on the doorways, generally living in the fringe of society? For heavensake he is one of our own - God's own child - yet we don't care.

I don't see how spirituality is going to change any of these.

i don't think so it will be very easy to bring changes that you are talking, as people have a tendency to do routine stuff all their life, and change is the word that doesn't go very well with people, and i have also gone through your article that you have posted and it is very good to see what you all are doing and according to me it is going to be a impossible dream.
