Economy vs. Environment, Which is More Important?

I do agree with your perceptions dear that without environment we can’t even think of economy, economy comes from environment so it's a byproduct of environment.

If we do a market researches we will conclude that not even a single industry can survive without environment.

So I believe nature is so powerful it can create us as well as destroy us so understand the importance.

Environment is god made and economy is man made.

@Amrita : I beg to differ here with your point because according to me the basic hyothesis cited in your argument itself seems to be flawed.  You mentioned that "Without an economy, we wouldn't be able to help the environment much".  It guess it is the other way round because if there is no environment where and for whom will the economy exist.  People would be fighting for survival and sad part would be that any powerful economy will not be able help !!!

It is simply an illusion to focus more on economy and forget environmental impact on earth as few richer nations are playing double game. But very truely they can't ignore economic compulsions as well... as world seems to be in dynamic gear...Collective efforts are taking shapes but damages done are irreversible and dangerous... the seeds of destruction lies in the science and technology and its wrong application with fierce competition and consumerism... Had there been no science and technological innovations, this earth could have survived for few thousand years more...

I completely disagree with Amrita. This is how we destroy our world and our future. Our greed is getting the better of us. We cant undo damages done to our environment. No amount of technology can replace mother nature. Anyways we are mostly using technology to destroy our environment.

my view on this argument is different, We no need to do any service to the Environment, It takes care of itself. The Economy is the one we created with our skills & Trade intelligence, That can be/has to be routed without affecting our Environment. We may also do good Economic without affecting the Environment. We all have to start practicing. You all know that what we are doing for our environment in the name of Development. The Great thing is to accept our mistakes and correct ourselves. Do not think for short term Profits. Look ahead. Save Earth for Our children.

Economy is growing in the overall world and environment is decreasing in all the world. which one is important for peoples you can see yourself.

Economy and Environment are not differant from each other. The cause of economic down trend or environment degradation is the ever increasing population. If you control the population you will be able to stop environment degradation and you will become stronger economically. You need to protect the environment at the same time improve the economy and opurchasing power. You cannot chose between the two. Therefore try to control population growth. That is the only solution to our current problems.

ENVIORMENT IS VERY IMPORTANT IN COMPARISION TO ECONOMY , BECAUSE ENVIORMENT FAILURE MAY LEAD THE HUMAN SOCIETY IN DANGER AND AT THAT TIME ECONOMY CANNOT HELP FOR THE SURVIVAL OF SOCIETY. HENCE ENVIORMENT IS MOST IMPORTANT.

Sharad at this stage both are important for a country like us. According to me one should not only take care of environment but we as a society,individuals must ensure all the activities are as per environmental guidelines and then concentrate on economy.

Environment is an important factor that needs to be focused in order to survive for the future. A healthy environment promotes a good economy assuming other factors are favorable. An economy that is promoted at the cost of environment may not survive for long and it is important to maintain a good balance between environment and economy.....

Would have said easily to have balance between two, however the question asked to to opt one from economy or environment.

What we will be doing if we have strong economy without enivironment that support life? We will be spending everything to get the environment!!!

Yet, we can live if favorable environment exist around us?

Environment gives us power to think, our minds to grow & ofcourse to "make strong economy".

A person can live on drinking water & eating leaves....but a millionaire couldnt buy the environment or create it according to his need within short time.

I fully  agree with you. You cant have a balance without giving equal importance to both.

I think we should have a balance between these two (economy and environment). There is no point in supporting either of these completely. Environment is important but so is economy. We in India have expressed false fears about environment and driven out many projects which otherwise would not have been a huge environmental threat. We have also done the opposite, we have destroyed may parts of India (illegal mining) just in the name of welfare for our citizens. As I said in the beginning, we need to have a balanced approach between economy and environment rather than embracing just one of them.
