education as it exists today is far from sufficient to create a competent generation. There seems to be an instructional system more imposed on the students than the preferred one which encourages free thinking and emotional preparedness to face life and become in control of our lives.

In that sense, education is certainly not our first priority

Yep, but not juz a formal education I would view it as; Learning is!

Each move of oneself, and each move around one gives a learning, that is the priority.

Priya ji i agree that today education system is such that students are only bothered to pass the exams and they have not been given enough time and freedom to think freely and innovative but that doesn't mean that education is not at all important.Infact only if the people are educated they would be able to think on their own and develop an art of creativity.

As rightly said by Kiran, No one likes to go back to school after summers but we have to, may be for parents. But what is more important is that we wait, think and search for the reason behind it. Whatever we do has a future application, which we should understand. Then we can use it for our benefit. And on the other hand some basic education is damm necessary for everyone to be aware of what is right and wrong.

Skills is more important than education. Every body has a skill that they can provide. Everybody needs to find this within themselves and seek a way to submit there skills. Education is just  ameans by which you can improve upon your skills but I don't think without education you can't improve your skills.

What excatly do you mean by education here??? Is it doing Graduation, Post Graduation ??

If thats the case education can help you in getting you the dream job. You can get closer to your dream job with education. So education is important to achieve your dream job in less time.

I would agree with nagaraju that education plays an important role in the progress of an individual’s mind and country. Ignorance and poverty are major speed-breakers in the swift developing country and can be overcome easily through education. You can’t call yourself educated if you can read and write, get full marks in every subject and can recite Shakespeare’s sonnets by heart. A person who is educated has a certain aura around him, of dignity and wisdom. If you are educated, you don’t need to abide by the facts that the book recites, or follow Aristotle’s philosophy. An educated person builds on the facts the book says and has his own philosophy. If you are educated, you can’t have a wrong philosophy. Education is everything.

Education & Decision-making: Impact on economic conditions of the society

This can become self-perpetuating. An uneducated mother, who is generally recognized as the mainstay of the home, will have little knowledge of the importance of raising a family that will lift them out of their situation. The importance of feeding the colostrums, raising the offspring with a scientific attitude, giving them nutritious diet at the available budget, providing them lessons on health and hygiene, making them educated etc are unknown to the uneducated mother. Thus, the body and mind of the children fail to develop to full potential. The mother automatically becomes almost invisible when it comes to decision-making in the family, may it be spending little money or restricting the family-size.

Unlike China, India does not restrict the size of a family and has even banned female feticide, but in some areas a female fetus is destroyed openly as it is believed boys will provide support to the family members later in life - girls are seen as a burden in rearing and in the future when a dowry is called for. There are cases of even educated families indulging in dowry deaths and female feticide. So the tendency, except for some geographical pockets, is to have many boys as an insurance against premature death of a child, which may happen as large families can often be ill-afforded.

"Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one"

So not only reading, writing and arithmetic are important, but logical reasoning supported by knowledge and experience also count. Making a population literate does not mean that they understand their rights; they can raise their voice against any discrimination and can have informed choice.

It is also important for any person to receive a rounded education which incorporates a number of disciplines that will benefit and improve a person's life.

In most of the countries, unaware and uneducated people are treated unequally, bullied by others and unable to avail facilities meant for them. Many a times, people also indulge in corruption by offering bribes as they do not have proper knowledge about the procedures to get the work done.

Some of the countries can not provide free education and social security; some can not ensure compulsory education even if the cost is shared or bore by the pupils’ families. In trying to ensure education to all, most of the times the system ends up in providing education of very poor quality. So, many parents cannot afford their children’s education and as a result, their children become uneducated, illiterate or school drop-outs. These families tend to send those children to earn a living to make financial base stronger.

This is especially prevalent in the poorer countries, where generations of uneducated youth impede upon a nation's progress.

Yes Definitely.

Education can be learnt in several ways. We can recollect those days - the difficulty with the uneducated, struggling all along thei life. They are cheated very easily by cheaters.  Even we can see the developement in all the fields. Improvements of indivdual as well as the society will come only by RIGHT EDUCATION AT THE RIGHT TIME IN THE RIGHT WAY ONLY. Education to the right person leads to good society and nation.

yes , of course education should be important for everyone, but it is also neccessary that we will have to improve our education standard because in India the standard of literacy is very low that is if you know reading and writing, you are literate. We will have to improve the meaning of literacy.

No doubt education is important, however, we must distinguish between education and literacy (rote learning). The real purpose of education should be to enable an individual to think rationally for himself and society at large; not merely to blindly follow the 'leaders' and dogmas of society.

Arguably, education is very very important to all and especially to the people in India. Infact, lack of education and availability of information with illiteracy etc. is posing a serious threat to our democracy. People with no education and no information as they are illiterate, exercise their voting right and the educated people may not vote thinking that their voice may not be heard in the system. The education makes one understand about the society, the system, the people and more importantly paves the way to get information, part with the information and they will, in turn, be enlightened citizens. The US is more of enlightened citizens resulting in bringing the revolution by electing Barrack Obama as their president. Such a revolution may not be possible in India and the political party run by Dr.Jayaprakash Narain in Andhra Pradesh is a good example for that. I equal Dr.Jayaprakash Narain of Loksatta with Barrack Obama in their knowledge and qualities. But, the Dr.Jayaprakash Narain's voice is not reaching the people to the extent required. Its because of lack of education admittedly. We need all educated in India and education with values will make India very very powerful in the world.

There are many reasons why education is important to me and should be important to everyone. Education is something everyone can relate to. Nobody likes to go back to school after summer, but we know we have to. We have teachers that we love and help us achieve new heights and teachers we don’t like but know are pushing us to complete better work. We have classes that we don’t really like but know in the end they are only helping to shape our character and our interests. We have had friends in classes and we have had enemies in classes, all however with the same goal, to learn. Through all these experiences, we will learn more about ourselves while also learning so that one day we may get a job and raise a family. It is extremely said to think that many people around the world do not have the chance to attend school on a daily basis. We sometimes complain about going to school, the teachers, the bullies that pick on us when in other countries someone is probably dying to be in our spot.

No matter how much I dislike school or how much it may sometimes get me down, I know that it will all benefit me in the future. I know that my parents have been through it in the past and I know I will experience it more in the future. Education is important to me because no matter how much I may dislike sitting in school with a teacher I don’t care for, I know there is nothing more important to me for my future. I someday will want a house, a car, a family, and a job and the good and bad experiences through education will one day help me achieve all of these. Just like my mom and dad, they too may of thought that school was not fun and it would never benefit them. Now seeing my parents and their jobs, I know education is important to everyone. My dad has a good job and I know that only came because of his education. My mom also has a good job and her job is also from her education.

Education is important for all these reasons and so much more. We sometimes take advantage of our situation and education and forget why we are here. Everyone needs to stop and realize why we are in school and why it will benefit us now and even more in the future. No matter who you are or where you are education should be important to you. The classes we think don’t matter know will in the future. Education now will shape our future.

Even though i am well educated i don't think education is the priority as said by Manju here, Learning life skills is what is more important than education, and in this regard i agree to Mr. Ajays comments that one old grandpa can teach you more things in life than a Ph.D guy from harvard, and todays education they are just teaching nothing but core subject which is of no use to kids, and they are not imparting life skills in them, with so much competition and pressure from parents and schools to perform they are breaking down very early in their life, education is no more an enjoyment where it was fun to learn new things, its like just scoring high percentage in exams.

education is so costly these days so we should be happy in being ignorant .

i like being ignorant as the state is blissful.

we don't need any education :

we don't need to incur any cost on it :

because at the end of the day we are just a sraw in the hay :

no education no intelligence :

no intelligence no ambition

no ambition no conflict

no conflict no choas

no chaos all harmony

so ignorance is an ideal state of mind and is complet bliss

this is the way of the ZEN Masters

So it is not education but uneducation which is essential for people of 21st century.
