Leadership is not something that only the designated leader performs.  Leadership happens when any intervention by the leader or group member moves the group forward towards its three goals; accomplishment of task, the resolution of internal group problems and the ability of the members to work together effectively as a group.

The designated leader shares the leadership role with the entire member

The effective leader knows that no one person can possibly be sensitive to all the task, group maintenance, group building and individual problems existing at any moment in the group.  Such sensitivity requires the combined watchfulness of a number of persons, all group members.

The leader ought to know that in a group there are emotional behaviours(positive and negatives).  He/She should be aware of these, accept them and handle them in a way beneficial to the group.  If necessary He/She may at times make them explicit for the group to become conscious of and continually to analyse them.

Arguments in: "Efficient Leadership"

i believe that leadership is taking the initiative when everyone else backs down. leaders are not made, they are neither born, they just take the initiative when it matters the most.

i believe efficient leader is the one who puts aside his or her personal benefits and thinks about the benefit of his team members and his organization.

he understands the needs and capabilities of his team and works accordingly leading his team with their full efficiency. he's the one who maintains a unique bonding with his team that helps the team work as a single unit.

he's a motivator and a mentor.

he's the one that stands out of the crowd without being any different from his team.

A leader must know his/her team well. Leadership is efficient only if there is a transparent relationship. The leader must be able to identify every team members' strengths and weaknesses. On knowing this, he/she could make the best use of each of their strengths and can work upon their weaknesses. Once this works out, the team efficiency would reach higher scales.

I should have been on the left side of this debate. But for a certain reason i am here in spite of my agreement with the overall proposition.

the reason being the usage of efficient & effective interchangeably in the primary argument.

effective leaders may sometimes need to put 'efficiency' under the scanner as they know  that all things 'efficient' may not be 'effective'..and it applies to leadership as well!
