Email has unquestionably been the most successful application of the Internet. Everyone uses email to communicate, it is the must-have business tool today. Email has reached the status of the written word, with email conversations being held up in the court of law.

On the same note, Email has not seen drastic innovation. It models snail mail. Spam, too much email, has made it a onerous business tool where a lot of productivity is wasted.

Is Google Wave a much better interface? Will email disappear the way we know it right now?

Email will still rule as not always everyone everywhere will be online. AS per the drawbacks of emails, then we do have technology to prevent those. We still have a mechanism to check the mail as they arrive and bar it from getting in our mail box.

The technology might have advanced, but the era of email is not yet over. If that would have been the case, then we do have chat systems like gtalk and messenger. Email still exist with them even though we can communicate much faster with chat.

The bottom line is that it is based on necessity. emails are still necessary and they cannot be made obsolete in near future. Somethings are specialized to do specific tasks. It will take a huge effort across the globe to eliminate email which has gone deep into the "Web".

Interactive, real-time communications is the way to go. Voice has never been replaced because of its interactive nature.Google wave integrates chat/instant messaging, email, documents and collaboration. This is the new way to go.

Email and its applications, are too clunky and not efficient. Too much information can be bombarded through email and thus, they cause a loss of productivity. It is tough to mine knowledge and  follow email conversations from a year or so ago. A lot of good data/arguments are lost due to that clunky interface. Google wave is a much richer way to collaborate and email is going to disappear eventually.

E MAIL SHOULD NOT BE MESSED WITH ITS SERVICE PROVIDER ,OUTLOOK IS STILL IN PRACTICE AND RECD. MANY FROM IT SUBJECT U CAN GET IT. I THINK IT WILL BE THE BEST WAY FOR COMMUNICATION,UNLESS PHYSICAL PRESENCE/ORIGINAL SIGNATURE OR HAND WRITING IS REQUIRED.

Google Wave with new advanced features is definitely the way of the future. However, when it evolves in the next 2 to 3 years only then will users be able to appreciate it 's worth/effectiveness. It could be the next big revolution after email.

Google Wave is not only about communications (email). Its a lot about collaboration.

The basic idea being that rather than using electronic tools to emulate analog communication methods, we should use the strengths we already have and do things you simply can't do in the analog world. Create a "wave," add people to it, and edit and collaborate. View all the collaboration in close to real time, and then view the history and evolution in "playback" mode.

Google has launched many communication services since its inception including Gmail, Gtalk, Google Docs to name just three, yet none of these have had such obvious business utility or attempted to reinvent the collaborative process from the ground-up.

The way we think about Wave is that it's a communication system, a productivity tool as well where you can produce content, but there's a very rich set of APIs that come with the tool and that of course is why its been released to developers first.

Enhancements through robots and gadgets like twave (twitter + wave), are just opening up exponential possibilities.

I kinda predicted this last month in my post http://toostep.com/question/does-google-wave-mean-the-death-of-gmail-and-google-docs?extraAction=crf&extraActObjId=264http://toostep.com/question/does-google-wave-mean-the-death-of-gmail-and-google-docs?extraAction=crf&extraActObjId=2640

Google wave is an amazing collaboration tool and will go much further than obliterating email apps. The possibilities are still unraveling themselves.

Google with its New application Google Wave, which is  a new in-browser communication and collaboration tool that is already being hailed by many of them as the next evolution of email.  I guess the concept behind Google Wave is to unite communication on the web. It’s a combination of email, web chat, Instant messaging, and many more. It also features the ability to replay conversations because it records the entire sequence of communication, character by character. Because of this, discussions are also live in Google Wave you will see your friends type and other things.  There are some more features to compliment it like, Google Wave also supports the ability to drag attachments from your desktop into Google Wave. It loads that file and sends it immediately to anyone in the conversation. Surely Google wave is next in thing that will make its presence felt in a huge way........
