Soon one will be seeing tags on their vehicles from 2011 that this car or bike is Energy efficient from BEE (Bureau of energy efficiency). It will be mandatory for automobile manufacturers to sell vehicles with energy-efficiency tags from 2011, this was said by minister for environment & forest Jairam Ramesh on the sidelines of a FICCI conference on climate change recently.

The rating will be done on the basis of fuel consumption per kilometre, the move will help customers take informed decision while buying a vehicle.

The standards in this regard is done citing fuel economy in terms of km per litre can be better interpreted by the end user as compared to the standards based on net carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The standard should be based on fuel economy rather than the parameter of CO2 emission which is technical for consumers to understand.

So what do you think People will this move from the Government on Energy efficiency tags for Vehicles work? What are your views on this?

I think this will help a consumer a lot while deciding which automobile to go for and which is the most energy efficient in that regard, and even for automobiles it will be a wake  up call and will make sure that their vehicles are most energy efficient, with these energy efficient tags it is in a way helping the Green cause and the global climate change cause a bit and also mainly the consumer. The whole process will be a lot easier while choosing  a vehicle.

Yes, i see the things moving in the direction of more sense , rather than just concentrating on sleaky body parts of the vehicle. To work on such core technologies and making the customer understand will definitely be possible and thats a way of ethical business as long as vehicle manufacturer and customer are considered.

But now with the challenge of Emission controls this will be a time Indian Manufacturers should different than IT industry , should also enter into R & D , and sell technology to tropical climate countries. None the less good start is half completed.!

I don't know about future but can say if this law is strictly followed, it will help a lot in preventing excess fuel consumption of vehicles which is doing a lot of harm our environment...

Currently all the vehicles being displayed in showrooms ( both 2 wheelers & 4 wheelers) have to display FUEL ECONOMY CHARTS along with them. THe fuel economy figures have been arrived by testing in conditions as mentioned by BEE. Also the customer while purchasing will know how fuel effecient is the vehicle.
