An Engineer who has an appetite for learning technical skill should not find it difficult to learn "English" at all. If he studies in English Medium in Engineering College, he, by default, should have learnt English. As far as speaking is concerned, he should devote little extra time to learn the nuances!

It is shameful to think that, one qualified Engineer has to learn english language after passing the engineering degree.I do not know any Engineering College in India where Engineers learn in local language.

Engineers are known for their technicality not for the English. English is just the medium for communication. i dont feel any reason wat's the relationship between technical and english. Rather you can compare an Managerial skill & techical skill. English is required for communication not for innovativeness, which comes from your technical knowledge.

I feel Technical knowledge is must for an engineer.Though English is important but not more than tech. skills. If an engineer has good skill then he can survive and can perform well in the industry even if he is lacking in English. English can be improved in a period of 1-2 months but the same can not be said for technical skills. So Technical skill is more important than English.

Yes, definitely an Engineer is supposed to be master in Technical but it's a point to be thought that how can a person be a master without having in-depth knowledge in any language whatsoever his or her medium of language is. From the ancient Indian Vedic knowledge any one can find it by observing a thing common in all the people of that time that they all were master in their respective languages & on the very firm base of their knowledge of the language they could got mastery in their respectively field of profession!

A person will not be called as engineer unless and untill he/she has technical knowledge. when the question comes that engineer (A technically sound person) should learn technical or english then answer would be an engineer (A technically sound person) should learn english in addition to his/her mother tounge to have better co-ordination with emplpoyer and clients.

Simple counter question: all the books engineers have to read, all the tests they have to write, most of the communication they have to carry with internal as well as external environment is in English. Is it possible to do this without good knowledge of English? Please remember your progress is not determined by your technical knowledge (i.e. hard skills), it is determined by your soft skills & command over the language (& English in present scenario) is most important soft skill besides positive attitude. ksÂ
