yes..!!! politicians should be given a separate world where they can make their own rules.. where they can change the rules over night.... i think it will be amazing because the CEO will be more business minded but not egoistic when making his decisions... issues will be approached in a more logical way rather than being political and with a view of being self benefited....

In general the answer is NO ! There could be few exceptional CEOs who can probably lead a Country. But, there is a huge difference between leading a Country and Leading a Profit making organization. When it comes to Leading a country it is not that easy, one needs to meet the expectations of everybody (not just board of Directors and set of employees). Also, it is not always measured in terms of Profit & Loss. For example a CEO can decide to close a Unit or reduce man-power to maximise Profit for the organization. But, the same strategy cannot be adopted by the Leader of the Country. In short to run a State one needs to be a true Leader. It is a different story that you do not find such good Leaders so easily.

I think a good administrator is better than a hard-core politician , to run a country.

Even in business , you have several kinds of leaders - when you are starting an enterprise you need one kind of leader , once everything is streamlined and running smoothly , you need another kind of leader.

The same is true of a country. India needed statesmen-politicians when fighting for her freedom ; it needed adminstrator-politicians when things had stabilised after independence. Today , it needs visionary-politicians to bring in new ideas , and take the country into an unknown future.

Global companies which operate in dozens of countries , with a hundred thousand employees , are probably as difficult to manage as a country.

It is a different matter whether any CEO would be interested in taking up such a job !

This is not to support or oppose, but Archana, the first part of the debate is a question within millions of Indians. Yes we had enough of polititians. If we will take a look at the polititians all over the country we can  count with the fingers who is selflessly serving their respective state or village.

Whether it is CEO or any other means i would be happy if i will see a corruptionless India with all people getting their dues without much struggle.

Very good debate Archana.

Who says there should a limit to Dreaming is certainly true in wishful thoughts.

Yet the real question "Who will bell the cat and how?" Especially when the Cat is forever at command.

No, shuffling politicians for CEO's is not the answer. If politicians = CEO, citizens = employees, state = public enterprise, the equation dose'nt seem good. Yes the system of state administration should be reviwed but we will have to be more imaginative and come up with more practicable ideas.

Not everything is Profit and Loss. Country is a thing to Build, Strengthen. But yes there should be a Qualified and Experienced person who should be responsible for a particular JOB. These days There are Ministers for specific departments who dont even know the basics. W'll try to avoid this ..., may this could be the first step.

Many a public sector have had CEO or even higher Name-tags. The crucial question is as long as loyalty to masters voice remains of sole importance over reason, logic and most importantly accountability to tax payer and service user's appreciation, nothing should be expected to change.

No!!

Mumbai has a Sherif and a Mayor. Where will the CEO live??? Similarly we have a hierarchy of DM's and Collectors who are already in charge of the states / cities. Why is it not possible for the government to give certain more rights to ensure smooth functioning of the administration?? Why do we need a CEO???

No I don't think CEO's will b a good alternative to politicians . I think there is a huge difference between the work of an Organisation and a politician.

Politicians sell the nation and CEO's try to market their product .

I believe the Finance Ministry of the country should go to someone well qualified CEO who will b in a better position to handle the economic needs of our Country but others departments can't b entrusted to CEO's due to lack of sufficient knowledge in that field.

No. A CEO may be good in running an organisation. But there is a huge difference between political situation of a state and an organisation. Nobody raises any question in organisation but in politics he would face these kind of people both public and opposition parties. He has to deal not only with his own specialisation but with all the aspects like agriculture, science, education, tourism. He can't see them only from Business angle. Fulfilling demand of so many people, majority of whom are in villages and are uneducated with lack of discipline without the knowledge of constitutional laws is not an easy task. For this, he needs an experience in politics first....
