HR should be more Humane, Layoffs necessarily need not be due to company's performance alone its more due to bosses outlook.

I would rather say its enthusiasm while recruiting which is very important. When you recruit in a proper and happy way you will select the right candidate, which may not lead you to the lay off level.

I dont care where I was born, but I fear about the way I would die.Well that is life as a whole.If principle applied in part towards just "career" portion the answer is no different. I dont think the style of recruitment or nature of recruitment has anything in the long run,neither for the organisation nor the employee but empathy during lay offs is all about doing one's best during the worst phase.Lay off is after all a phase.

In any company layoff is unavoidable may be because of business problem and business need of the situation. In that situation some time we have to remove good people/performer also. But if we will show them empathy by helping them to get new job than may be they become future prospect for organization and some time getting business also.

Dear Ms Swathi Kausahal,

Lay off is unavoidable due to power shortage in a manufacturing organisation.While employees laid off,they would be getting low take home pay to maintain family necessities.Naturally empathy will be set in among employees in an organisation.So there is no alternative for the Management to lay off their workers to avoid accumulated losses to the organisation.They will take it as a last resort to avoid unpleasant situation in the Industry.So empathy during lay off will be in the Labour force. Whereas enthusiasm will always arise in recruiting only when the Organisation leads to further development. So Empathy cannot be compared with enthusiasm in recruitment. My view is in favour of Empathy in Lay off which is imminent and cannot be removed from the Industrial Unrest.

Well I have a different view. Enthusiasm does not mean that you recruit any unbudgetd numbers.You always recruit as per approved manpower plan. If so then we can recruit some numbers / percentage on contractual basis for a fixed term in order to mitigate heartburns and shocks of layoff to some extent. Such employees would know their tenure from very begining and the organisational climate will also not vitiate much.

Empathy plays an important role in organasations... as it is not of a positive nature, managers need to make it positive. Empathy is to be in a fellow's shoe, understanding the feelings..layoff happen due to bad financial condition of co., recession, cost cutting etc. so emphathy plays an important role in it...

I believe enthusiasm while recruiting is necessary; empathy for layoff is just paying lip service to the whole thing unless you have experienced a layoff. Also, trying to make it right by being superficial is just annoying to the person getting the pink slip.

its always a +ve thing to perform so there always a +ve energy out there in this activity and its always gives a good feeling 2 bth the parties where as during layoffs its always a nector for everyone so m in support of enthu during the rrecruiting

Enthu during recruiting is very much required. Also empathy while relieving is also required for the HRs & the management.
