Euthanasia is one of the most controversial topics at the moment. It really is a debate between pro-life and pro-choice groups.Should dying patients have the right to order their doctors not to start or continue medical treatment? Should doctors be protected from prosecution if they shorten a patient's life expectancy with pain-killing drugs?

It really is a debate between pro-life and pro-choice groups.

Pro choice groups say the right to life is the choice of the individual and if they deem life to no longer be 'worth it' then they should have the choice to terminate it, especially if they are suffering from an debilitating illness with no chance of recovery and a slow deterioration. Quality is what they say determines the value of life.
Pro life groups say that life itself is valuable and nobody has a right to decide when to end it or not. Killing whether by choice or not is still killing.
Both these parties have valid arguments and its a difficult topic to debate.

of course ! I mean what is the point of prolonging life if it only means constat agony? what is the point in living like a vegetable and draining your family financially?its much better to take the easy way out when you feel that your life is no longer productive.

Since there is no choice or right for taking birth, then there should not be any choice for mercy killing. In this case death should have natural part of the life not enforced.

Mercy killing would be a cause of non social activities and Gunda part can take advantage of this legalized form of mercy killing.

I would say best debate started by Karamjeet. Karamjeet, very good.

It is a decade old and long standing debate on whether to legalize euthanasia in india or not. In my views it should be legalized in order to relieve the patient and his/her family from unbearable pain and misery.it is solution for those who has no chance of recovery from a incurable disease and who are on life support system to die with dignity. i think it is better to die in a moment than dying every moment.

The philanthropy assumes the following:
• Doctors are PROPERLY doing their job for curing the patient.
• There are enough financial resources to continue the medical treatment.

If the situation is TOTALLY hopeless case, terminating the life will be decided by:
• The patient if he/she is LEGALLY fit to decide.
• The IMMEDIATE family member(s) if the patient is legally unfit.

The most important issue is for the life-termination to be administered by a judge (or a magistrate) to make sure that the process complies with the applicable law.

I think that it is better option for both parties either doctor or patients.
Would the doctor able to see patient pain that has 0 chance to recover from any diseas.
Or would the patients and their dear ones as well able to tolerate unending pain.
As far as legality of this issue are concerned than would like to know your opinions  about the "Abortion" ?

Life is precious. But sometimes it does happen that one have to choose it from prolonged suffering and unbearable pain or instant death. As Ahmed has put it here, patient, doctor and the immediate family should have this right. However, few stupid can commit mistake or misuse this right in a few eruptious emotional moments before the law take course. It would be a murder then. Also, it is perception of the family and noone from out of the family knows about history and condition of the patient. So noone will be able to know the actual facts. Lets not legalize criminals and empathize with murderers then. The society might then become very unsafe place.
