Tata Motors is mulling to start exclusive showrooms for its small car Tata Nano in the smaller towns. The automaker has not yet disclosed any further detail on when it is planning the appointment of the first exclusive dealer. It has also not stated that how many such stores will be opened across India. The only question is do they need to do this?

Why not? If they have permission to produce the vehicle then they have right to sale. Its upto people to decide on their choice.

Tata Nano is available via the company’s 617 regular outlets. The car is also available at 151 Tata Authorized service centers and 210 access points of the company. Then why do we need exclusive showrooms??

Tatas' decision to open exclusive NANO show rooms in smaller towns is a delayed but right decision. Nano is a car for those who cant afford luxury cars and maintenance be low, such crowd in smaller towns is surely going to benefit by new show room policy.

A person who is ready to afford for a uxorious bike, can go for Nano showroom. But its failing to lure a section of people. Car is still a status symbol for Indians. Nano can provide that status instead it erodes the status. In this background TATAs may be considering the strategic move of opening exclusive show rooms for Nano particularly in smaller towns.

I have not find any reasoning for saying no for it. It increases the overhead cost for the company. When they are ready for it, why do we worry about. Their strategy is to promote Nano in the smaller towns. Its almost a failure in big towns and cities. A person who is ready to afford for a uxorious bike, can go for Nano. But its failing to lure a section of people. Car is still a status symbol for Indians. Nano failing to provide that status instead it erodes the status. In this background TATAs may be considering the strategic move of opening exclusive show rooms for Nano particularly in smaller towns.

Farah it is always better. Firstly it will generate employment and since the car is designed for mass it must reach mass by way of more show rooms. Nothing wrong.

Thanks,Farah, I think TATA want  to scale down the commission on volume of sales, hence the need. Otherwise there was no necessity of adding overheads.

No, these type of showrooms cannot meet the requirement of the mass. These have only a set of target buyers. Anything that doesn't meet the requirements of the mass is overhead.
