Facebook Adds More Virality with Videos

Facebook’s popularity in Video streaming segment is for all to see as it has been able to hold its own against competitors like Youtube, Myspace. It is ranked the third most popular place to watch videos for netizens just a rank below youtube and hulu.

It has now added a overlay button on page videos depicting “Become a Fan” badge which is shown to users not fan of those pages. The badge in the beginning shows just ‘fans’ but expands to “Become a Fan” on mouse-over. This helps Page owners to get more conversions to their fan pages via their viral videos. Youtube already shows links to main video page on embedded media so as to increase conversions on channel subscription.

So users, do you think facebook can be more popular like youtube with its videos?

Till now the majority of Video action has been on Youtube as marketers preferred it to launch their viral videos leveraging high amount of users. Facebook has been more popular for personal videos than brand related videos. Although it's premature to say how much effect will it have on video content exclusively being launched on Facebook. This action will certainly see brands giving similar preference to Facebook and in long run, I am sure Facebook will become as popular as youtube.
