Social networking site Facebook on Monday said it is creating a global safety advisory board to protect its users against online predators such as sex offenders. The board will comprise representatives from five Internet safety groups: Common Sense Media, ConnectSafely, WiredSafety, Childnet International and The Family Online Safety Institute.

The formation of the board formalizes relationships it has had with the groups. It also may expand the board to include more international representatives. In early 2008, Facebook signed an agreement with attorneys general in 49 states to help protect children against online predators.

So users, do you think this new law of facebook will help in controlling the cyber crimes, mainly the sex offenders?

Internet was invented for nobel causes ... now (often) being used by faceless fraudstars.  They pose before U in many 'avtars' : friends, lottery/fortune -makers, helpless men/women/students, vendors, financial advisors/banks/card company ... and what not. We are to be cautious and know how to savegurd ourselves/children. Somany bulletins, mails, web-sites are alarming us and educating us to obseve some 'rules' in this direction. India is amongst some 'elite' countries which has cyber laws in effect .. !!

Equally, frauds, should not prevevent easy flow of Internet / websites / social cites like Facebook. Again, we are to observe preventive rules. Facebook has taken some measures of their own ... !! We may welcome the developments.

There is a possibility of its success. Facebook has signed agreement with attorney generals in 49 states to help protect children against online predators. Now it is creating global safety advisory board to protect its users against online predators. And since these people belong to so big safety groups, they are having a good experience in handling cyber crimes. I don't think this approach will fail in controlling cyber crimes.

I don't trust these social networking sites. After all the privacy violations that facebook as been guilty of, I have to admit that I am more worried about facebook than some other cyber criminals. These kind of Social networking sites like facebook, google, and microsoft harass public more than any other cyber criminal especially in sex offending. There have been many laws made against these things. None of them really worked out. I don't think this new step will also work out...
