I would support Puja on this arguement...someone a king may not always remain a king... no doubt google brought a revolution to search engines with its lightest webpage (just 17.8 kb size) ever in the history of www . facebook may be a new entrant to search engines competition but one can never ignore such strong competitor in social networking before which even google's orkut and even buzz applications don't stand a chance. It might take some time...but facebook would definitely come up with faster search logs and as we all know it already is far ahead of google in terms of its variants and innovative applications.

Its no doubt that FB has gained big applause for being mostly used social networking site. Few poeples were initially used to of orkut, but now they are also switching to FB. But google has its own foot in a market. Google is search giant, and it is no boudt that it will remain. Moreover, google is also booming in mobile Android.. That is what i think going to be next major step.

Facebook search engine may be useful from the social user perspective. However, Google has a long history in search and its main focus is search. Hence, a comparison between these two search engines may not be leading to a useful outcome. Members search Facebook for social interactive topics or topics which can be better searched through social networking cues, but the search on Google encompasses all the areas including social interactive topics. Hence, a subset of the overall search focused intensely on social interactive topics may be one area where Facebook could be slightly better. In all the other areas, Google is the numero uno. Additionally, Google is improving its search algorithms constantly. Hence, it is a better search engine from all perspectives. Additionally, with Facebook trying to get into too many areas (Email, search, social networking, etc.), it will be very difficult to maintain supremacy in all the areas as other competitors are focused and operating in niche segments. Hence, the current strategy adopted by Facebook should hold water over a period of time. If it spreads its resources too thin, then members may migrate to other applications. Hence, the strategy adopted by Facebook needs to be watched over a period of time. Thanks for the referral, Puja.....

Google is undoubtedly the best of all search engines for the fact Google accounts for all the services and features that a good SEO should project and also covers global as well as local info serving the quintessential purposes for searching prosperity. Google's assistance to its users for accessing the internet and thousands of news and info from the latest forum, its efficiency and speed serve as an integral part of the web. The internet cannot be thought of or used for that matter if there were no information provider; Google makes the unthinkable happen.

Google are the undisputable "search champions" Though their service has become quite laden with adverts and people that are not familliar with the possibilities of google customizations are easilly led on "guided searches" Google has no equal in the depth and quality of their results.

Google as a search tool has become a verb in searching itself! facebook probably will never catch up with google in that domain. In fact there is nothing that facebook has that isnt present in google and the reverse isnt even closely true. The way google provides mail, chat, document sharing, et cet et cet... well one can always dream.

Facebook is the pioneer for social networking while Google is the pioneer for searches. Jargons are used to refer social media as Facebook and googling around means google search

facebook and Google - 2 giants in their own fields - one a social networking and the other, search engine....when you try to invade the other, theres a lot more than just building around your competencies to eat away the other's market share and there is bound to be strong resistance from Google to give away its market share for which it has struggled for these many years...Its far better to broaden your search covering billions of users/ products, etc than just based on your 500 millions users..Moreover, the data modelling techniques that Google uses is a step ahead to facebook which is more so confined to its social network...REMEMBER THERE ARE PPL LIKE ME WHO DOES NOT HAVE A FBOOK A/C AND SO YOU ARE MISSING ON MY PREFERENCES WHEN YOU ARE SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING THAT MAY BE ALIGNED TO YOUR LIKES/DISLIKES...So 1..2...3...Google Wins here...

well to compare facebook and google in the area of search is just not right and Google is something more than search . Rumors have it that unmanned cars are undergoing rigorous development .This speaks volumes of what Google thinks about the future and its commitement to enchance it further . Next ,well search is more than personalization .Even if 6 billion come on facebook all connected to each other ,your search on the latest news in your country or your field say bio-chemistry or something would be based on your friends "likes " . Although content would be created but its ranking ,relevance ,its location etc.. will need a different platform altogether .And Google has this area right . Any given time they run around 200 experiments on search . Their decisions are more based on statistics and reason. They have learnt the way to unlock the potential of OPEN .They keep learning how the fusion of art and science should be done and are great at this .

Facebook might prove better results *if* your search is within your social network. However, for general searches, Google is better by far since it only relates to your history and not that of the people you (more or less) know. Both search-methods are valid in their own field. Each with their own usertarget.
