yes,I think its a high time to come and show the unity how "we" can put pressure on administration being a part of democratic country. The biggest challenge of today is Food inflation and corruption and Government should take it seriously as it effects directly and indirectly our lives in every sphere .Best of luck India.

We need this kind of Protest all over India.Common man cannot survive if price increase like this way. Global market will not affect Indian food price increase since we have enough capacity to produce food to fulfill our requirement. This government dont have good planning and control on anything.'We have effective cold storage and distribution network.Tons of food going to waste everday. It will leads to increase in crime rate in India. If this price increase continous common man forced to do crime for his survival. Increase in living cost will leads to insecure life for every citizen in India. We have to unite and do more protest to drive Goverment to take necessary action.

Hey, Thanks for the invote @Yash. I think the commoner of the country is going through too much of hikes and scams and religion right now. A spark is enough to ignite the forest fire if the protest reaches the common man! Yet, I agree with your point that the govt. has proved to helpless several times and unions going for a prtest might not bring about a change as these kind of organizational protests are mostly politically prompted and backed.
But, once the issue comes into the common man's hold, some things, may be not all, are going to change and the parties will be held, if not made answerable!
Today, tomorrow or the day after, change is imminent on the system and polity!
Great debate! Will refer!

Media people are present day Narad, I am from Komunist Kolkata trust me all got up story fooling around, ball passing game where the music never stops even if Onion petrol and a bottle of Beer are all sold for 65/- does it bother Manmohan Singh or any MP out there? No. WHY? In our country Planning Commission head and Prime minister have to watch “Peeple life” to understand How common people's lifes work!! This reminds me of French Revolution, I read in my history book, pleasant came to the king's court yard and said we don’t have bread to eat, the Queen remarked, “You don’t have bread eat cake” Italy is near France. Anybody has doubt please check Google Earth. Komunists are great stage managers example West Bengal 35 years Cuba 54 years Russia to Soviet back to Russia 70 years. What you see in the picture are Comrades they are new species new DNA "Homo Cutputlikas".

Nope because at best they are politically motivated. Dont forget it is these very same trade unionist who have turned Sonar Bangla into a bloody dead state. Today West Bengal lags behind on so many parameters only because of the RED unionism. Good factories have been forced to close forcing the population to migrate enmasse.Kerala doesnt fare much better either, with the highest literacy levels, you dont find that state either in the forefront. Trade unions are necesarry in a democratic setup other wise owners would rule the roost but in india i beleive this has gone a bit far with a political hue given to it. Workers who become trade union leaders forget what they were once upon a time and became babu themselves and build an empire around themselves. They participate and call for strikes frequently to keep themselves in power. This protest can in no way be equated with what happened in the middle east. In the ME region it was a long needed one in the absence of democracy and high prices. What ignited the fire in Tunisia and egypt was the basic cost of the common mans food which went beyond the bearable limit. Whereas thats not the case in india. Agree with Mr. Dhingra dn the others when they say it was just an eye wash !

Yes, Manish, you are right, all of the politicians, media, bureaucrats, and trade unions are making fool of the public by one or the other stints of theirs. Government spent 250 Crores to investigate the Bofors case to finally close the case just a day before without convicting even a single of the culprits after spending 25 years. While old generations, like me have already forgotten the impact, the new generations don't have even the inkling about such case after the passage of 25 years, which span of time is not very small.
So, the corruption, scandals, inflation, etc. all cases are destined to the similar fate to die its own death with the passage of time, while the media and trade unions, etc, would already have taken a lot of advantage by then with their hypes by making fool of the public. Moreover, since the trade union, INTUC that came forward to protest, belongs to the ruling party itself. So, you can imagine, all this hype by that trade union was just to subside the bad effect to the image of the ruling party.

Look at the composition of the people who participated in the protest. People of one particular party. There it loses its meaning. The protest should be mainly apolotical, should be particpated by people from all streams of life, by people of all age groups and by people of all castes and religions. It will then have its impact. Till then, it is only a publicity stunt of one group of people. And we will continue to suffer the price rises and the corruption scandals without any respite. God save India from its corrupt people.

We already have a govt. elected by/of/for the people. So any type of protests to topple the govt. actually means toppling the democratic system itself which is not a good sign for the future of our country. Anyways, it would always be hard to topple a democratically elected govt. through protests because there will be sections who would rather not participate seriously in such protests - reason being, they are the ones who have elected the present govt. and if they do participate it would just last till the time the food in you gets digested and converted into waste. But the brighter side of the story is that we have quite a few leaders - courtesy - Karunanidhi and Jagan Mohan Reddy - whose digestion process is so slow that they can go without food for a week before they succumb to the aroma of sambar and rasam. At the end of the day, the protests pans out and the hunger kicks in. So they get back to their work until the next time they feel they are ready to go over the entire digestion process.

Yash I partially agree with you I believe government is trying to do every thing possible to curb the prices and they will do it if not today tomorrow. The process has already started in other direction such as unearthing and arresting scam masters including ex minister A. Raja. Have we ever heard such things before?

The best way to protest is through ballot and not by strikes or any other means. In our democratic system compromises are made in highest level and scams and corruptions are allowed to flourish to remain in power.

Hello Anantha, thanks for referring this debate, this so called "all India strike" and this union protests will never work on Indian government, because they know that, we mango peoples will never take part in this protests. we have seen all this in past also, what happen when all India strike was called by Bjp against the hike of fuel price,no one supported them and it was forgotten in just one day. We Indian will adjust with anything, that is well know fact to all of us and all of the political parties

The government has looked increasingly helpless as it tries to introduce policies to rein in food prices which have risen mainly on the back of soaring global prices which the government cannot control. Nothing has been done nothing will be done.. Thats all we can say..
