This is not a new phoenomenon. Actually it should be both the reason stated above. With it leaning towards the govt. side more because of their basic failure in providing an FDA kind of body to oversee and control the food Act. Consumers because they willingly fall prey to such machinations knowing well the effect on their health. While some of them - the educated ones living in cities do know about it but chose to ignore it - the ones in the villages and small towns , alas have no clue to the whole thing . That is where the FDA type of body would step in. Overall i would give it a 70-30 split with 70% of the responsibility lying with the government.

Lack of public awareness and Govt.'s failure to foster awareness are equally responsible to many of this kind of problems. Our Govt's are never been proactive, they are not even reactive. They are just lethargic.

Both the reasons are valid... but primarily... Govt is failed to enforce the laws.... related to public they won't be aware unless it is published by media or Govt in public support..... awareness program is important and can play a major role against such malicious mixing of chemicals in food.... Since chemical is a part of ingredient since cannot be visibly distinguished unless it is known... Good subject.... thanks for refering

We have PFA Act which our Government failed to implement. Certain standards in PFA are stringent than EU regulations. But we miserably failed at implementation part

I think Government is too liberal in dealing with these type of people. The laws against these practises have been made just for name sake. I don't remember any of them getting implemented. Government should be more strict against these crimes.

There are some valid points in the arguments of Mr. Saleel as well asMr. Ratin. There should be continuous education about the effects and scientific effects upon health resulting the use of health hazardous chemicals in food colours. It is concerned with the health of people. HARMFUL FOOD COLOR AGENTS SHOULD BE PUBLICED THROUGH TV and OTHER MEDIA. PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS SHOULD BE LAUNCHED This is apart from law enforcement.

Dear Madhukumar garu, I agree with you and support your view point. The Govt. should initiate stringent and punitive actions in this regard. If this is not done, we shall be surrounded by disease and misery.

I fully agree with you Mr.madhukumar.Its the people who shuld become aware of these adultrations.....by the way who should enlighten the public or educate them is a different issue...again why blame the government....many of us ....within the society are aware of this ...they should get into public ..a forum which creates awareness in the public about such adulterations, cause we cant wait for the government to take steps....its a ugly system....will take so much of time that we will loose one generation in the process...also if it comes to government it comes to corruption...the manufacturers will bribe the concerned authority and the awareness schemes will be left aside...the same manufacturers will bribe the health ministry, doctors and keep selling their stuff to innocent people. Now it is time for this generation to come out and fight against these people...I dont know how to achieve this ...and go public...but there must be some way ...some source which will help in this. Thanks for the referral.

I completely agree with you Malladi on this subject. The concerned minstry should create awareness through TV and news papers and also crack down wiyh the help of states on such offender. In terms of priority there may not be any or incase if there is any it right at the bottom and I am sure once you ask the concerned minister hr will be completely ignorent about this since ni money is involved. After all it is India and the attitude is Chalta Hai this appliesfor the minister also. Since he is not at risk.
