If government cannot provide jobs at least this footpath vendors ensure their self rehabilitation and does good to free market economy .They at least provide motivation for people who are jobless in this country to earn their livelihood. Millions of people in India are jobless no state or central government can provide these many jobs. why should we stop if there is a harmony among the foot path vendors and the public not being averse to these vendors as it facilitates daily office going staff to get what they want after officer hours or otherwise. It helps in many reduce the employment problems. one should encourage it as this would improve logistics and improve more competition in free market where any one can enter and leave.

Yes, footpath is meant for pedestrians, but that does not mean that the entire foot-path is their property. If the foot-path is exclusively meant for pedestrians, then why do we see pedestrians mindlessly walking on the road - that is meant for vehicles. Yes, foot-path is for pedestrians but not an exclusive property tagged for them. There are others who has the right to use them for their livelihood. After all pedestrians can buy something of value while walking around - a bonus indeed for the pedestrians!

We should have footpath vendors ; the average middle-class person cannot go to malls , except to do window shopping. For actual purchasing , most of us would rather get good quality stuff , rather cheaply from our neighbourhood vendor. After some bargaining , of course ! Seriously , there is a different kind of pleasure in shopping on the side walk ; but this should be strictly limited to exclusive designated areas , which are solely pedestrian areas , rather than by the main road , where there is a lot traffic , both vehicular and pedestrian.

hi all,in our daily life,we often go to markets for shopping.all along the way we will come across so many vendors who occupy footpath to sell small and essential products.so many times we feel that they are blocking the walkways and get irritated.but,if we think from other angle,i feel they are adding some charm to shopping and colour to market itself.i want to know what you people think about this.this may be a very small and silly topic to discuss, still,i feel everyday we experience in one or other way by this vendors.

Footpaths are certainly meant for pedestrians, it causes traffic jams and an unethical source of money for policemen but there should be some alternative for them and we cant just throw them out after all its a means of securing the necessities of life

Why should they be "footpath vendors". They are also citizens of this country and have their right to conduct business. If the State fails to uphold their rights, at least they should demarcate certain areas in an organised way to help them conduct their business. In a multi-cultural vibrant society with people of "haves and havenots" you can hardly eliminate footpath vendors!

Many people might feel that I am rude if I take this side. But footpath are ACTUALLY made for pedestrians. There is some things we can buy from the footpath vendors because they are cheap. But the quality cannot be guaranteed. To add to this there are people of a different class who can actually afford only the things sold on footpath. These vendors do not have anywhere to go and thus they sit there. All the sympathetic reasoning is fine but the fact still remains.. footpath was designed for us to walk...
