CREATING THE BRAND IDENTITY INVOLVES MUCH MORE THAN A NAME, LOGO OR THEME,THE STARTING STAGE ESSENTIALLY REQUIRES A NAME WITH HIGH RECALL-ABILITY AND LOGO THAT CONVEYS THE BUSINESS IDEA OR THE AREA IN WHICH THE BUSINESS IS DONE.THESE ARE JUST A PART OF THE WHOLE EFFORTS AND STEPS REQUIRED TO CREATE A DISTINGUISHED BRAND THAT CAN CREATE A STRONG AND FAVOURABLE ASOCIATION IN THE MINS OF THE CONSUMERS, FOR INSTANCE WHEN AIRCEL WAS INITIALLY LAUNCHED IN DELHI, MANY PEOPLR THOUGHT OF IT AS BEEN COPIED FORM OF AIRTEL BUT THE BRAND CARVED A NICHE FOR ITSELF IN CONSUMERS MIND THROUGH AN INTEGRATED MARKETING COMMUNICATION AND CSR CAMPAIGNS...A GOOD BRAND IS A PROMISE THAT COMES TO CONSUMERS MIND THE BRAND OFFERS TO FULFILL ...

I feel Brand name is the key for branding. I agree the argument of Mr. Ajay too, as he rightly mentioned customer service has major impact in making the brand name LIVE. Any brand will withstand only based on customer satisfaction. Branding and Customer Service are interrelated and proportional.

All too often we focus on name and logo and foget Sound Branding!! That is more potent and wide reaching and stays in areas of the brain where names do not! Don't we associate a certain tune with Airtel,Reliance,Hutch,Mtnl etc... THnk about it. Also in this is the Nokia default tone! Sound branding is the way to the future of branding. You can play it on a radio and many more people than the one using the radio will be reached by the branding.

I agree with Mr.Avdesh Sharma. Branding should be part of an integrated communication strategy. A very clearly defined Target Group , communication of the product's ability to solve a problem or satisfy a need- are basic to any Branding exercise.

Branding is the result of th e intensity of this communication. The need-satisfying or problem-solving  ability of the product/service gets associated with the Brand Name and Logo only when it becomes valuable to the customer.

A lot depends on the TG the particular brand is addressing. If it's a literate or intellectual segment, then name works. And if the TG is composed mainly of C & D classes, then the logo design plays a vital role.

both Mr.ajay and Mr. suryakumar are right but first thing first the brand name and image always act as the mirror in which he/she can perceive about the brand service is the after effect or after piority, if customer at first is not taking any interest in watching or having a look at the product how can any one think that he will wait for the service analyses.AND to Mr. Ajay when Rcom was launched because of its face value it became No.1 mobile operator in India for i think an year and that what name did to the brand. Thank you

None of these. If customer service is poor, what ever brand name either logo or theme become Vain. Let say ex compare the customer serivce with Reliance infocom and Tata indicom. Why most people are not trusting Rcom mostly internet (broad band, wireless), due to fake bills, eventhough they come with cheap tariif plans . See Tata indicom (internet, braoad band or wireless) . They are perfect in Billing. What we use they will charge. Everything is transperant. But i can't find these in RCOM, mainly fake bills, poor customer service and response. So Any product even though not Big brand or logo, or whatever theme with good customer service can become competative even with Big brands, or Logo.

Brand name plays a major role as it has been amply demonstrated in Products of Amul, which have been- 'short and sweet' and also proven with success by many Pharma brands. Logo goes well in identification process of the company the values set and past glories.A brand can be successful even witout a logo but not otherwise

yea, its mainly theame and logo, logo of the brand is identity of its product n theme is the idenntity of its values. Logo and theam determines the perception of a consumer about a brand name. logo and theme convey the direct massage to consumer whereas brand name is the name of that massage.

Its mainly the theme which makes you remember the brand name.if theme is involving your target group, for sure they will remember the brand. somthing similar why we remember complex names of our good friends from different culture but we forget the name of many classmates /collegues.

I completely agree... the numbers, colors, name, symbols etc... all are designed based on a common parameter. It is not done blindly. There is a concept called capturing people's mind share. All branding efforts are carried out with the same goal of binding the customers with the company. Branding is an exercise being carried out to create a bond between the company and the customer. It creates a presence in the minds of the people, a sense of relativity. Logo is a symbol, which represents an identifiable form of all branding efforts of the company. This means, whenever a desire/ need is born in the mind, one thinks of service (represented by the logo), the advertisement (branding effort) and it depends on the relativeness of his mind with the brand that how he responds (purchase/ not purchase). The idea is to brand the company so well, as to strengthen this relativeness (capturing the mind share). However, one more point that can made here is, is it the product that is being promoted or the service????

Establishing Brand Name or Branding is the game all about in whatever activity you undertake.

Consumers buy for the Brand value--whatever value they attach to the brand.

The example of Tata or Benz--these itself are Brands (Corporate name) since they have multirange products.Similarily, you can Brand an indivisual product.

Take consumables--how many can recall a particular soap or shampoos' manufacturer???

So,using Corporate, Singular product,Logo or theme has one target---Branding.

Agreed that a mere name cannot build a winning proposition. A brand equity is the amalgamation of the Brand Name, Theme, Logo & the Positioning. However the Brand Name plays an incredibly critical part in the success of the product..a fine e.g is of the Pulsar Brand which revolutionized the performance biking segment. Bajaj sometime back tried to use the same concept in the low end segment with the XCD which failed miserably and finally they had to fall back on the Pulsar brand name which was a instant hit with the consumers.

In saying so i would still say that although the Brand Name has a little edge over the other, neither of them can exist independently.

Not withstanding the fact that all the three are important, Brand defenitely is the most  vital factor.  Logo and theme follows brand and can be subjected to change as the situation demands. An accepted Brand being a constant factor, and is supported with required customer support/service, all other changes as and when effected are  accepted or overlooked  by virtue of the system, nature and philosophy

who ever started this? this is really an iteresting topic.

in my opinion i think i varies in the given circumstances

for eg. if i am buying a car i would like the bonnet to hold a good logo like 3 spokes, a golden cross , 4 rings inter woven to each other , a big H in the middleetc.

so my argument is that it depends on the type of product mostly with cars people identify them with their logos

sometimes it depends on the target audience

but most of the time its brand name that makes the impact even logos have their independent entity

For a long term competetive sustainable advantage, the brand has to deliver the promise it makes to the target group, the theme so I feel is at the core of the brand, the logo...the brand name is there for brand recall and positioning the brand in the minds of the TG in a way that removes the clutter. For eg suppose an airline says its competetive advantage is ON TIME departures or ON TIME arrivals and it cannot deliver on its promise.............so the brand will be built on its central theme...ie (Ontime) ...the advertisements, its logo and brand name is communicated for brand building.......

Of Course the Brand Name. Logos and Themes are used to recall the Beand name. Recall Theme of Nirma--but at the end it helped you to recall Nirma!!! Take DOKOMO today--the theme instills the Brand Name.Even a logo should remind you of the Brand Name. You purchase a product by its' Brand Name.

A brand name is very vital for a brand; just imagine how one will ask for it at the shop?  Brand name is like a person’s name. As soon as we think of brand all the visual imageries associated with it come in our mind. Even the experiential benefits of the brand also come to our mind.

A brand name, logo and the brand promise is a part and parcel of a brand which helps a consumer differentiate it from the other brands available in the market.

Following are some of the factors that are taken into consideration before a name, logo and the promise is finalised

In which product category will this new product be identified, the product characteristics, the competitive set within which it will operate, the indirect competition, the audience that it will cater to,  if any region specific brand, then what are the characteristics of the region, the product pricing, packaging, the end benefit that the consumer can look for after usage.

Whether it should be a benefit sounding brand name? Or a good sounding short name that is easy to remember. A brand name helps the educated to ask for the product at the shop shelf, a visual mnemonic or logo helps the not so well educated to identify it in the market place.  The product promise has to match with the experiential benefit that the end consumer will get from the brand.

It is a bunch of elements that help in identifying a brand – name plays a vital role, visual logo helps in better identification and promise acts as the foundation for a brand to stand on.

The first thing that makes an impression in the mind of the customer is the name of the brand...The brand name should represent the product keeping in mind its quality, price, and the main & the foremost thing is that it should be kept for the customers. Then, comes its logo/theme.

First the quality of product should be best then we can think to create brand image in the market otherwise it reciprocate the branding n we cant even survive in future. SO Product Quality->Brand Name followed by logo/theme to make it more popular in the market to increase the profitablilty of organisation is the best process.

In my opinion Name is the most critical element in good branding. Even if the logo is attractive, human minds would always look for the connecting brand name! The most classic case to support my view would be the Tatas. Any logo or theme will sell well for the group simply because of the name TATA.
