There is not a better time to ask this question. With the recent insane popularity of blogs as a bridge for a company to build repo with it's audience, this is a great question. For the purpose of this entry the term "forum" encompasses usergroups, newsgroups, etc..

What's Better to Build Community: Blogs or Forums?

Forums FTW!!!

Forums are like those chat sessions with like minded people who in turn ur friends too. Maintaining a good blog is not easy and tiresome, at a point of time it just loses d magic. U loose on topic and those intellectual comments.

Rather in a forum u'r sure to get replies.

If we want to build and grow communities then forum is better...
Forums are more geared towards queries that is asking, harvesting, discussing and managing knowledge. In my experience with forums, many topics may be a stated opinion, or posed question requesting response and answer where as  Blogs may not always be question or collaborative in nature.

What I say is that Blogs are a great way to initiate a conversation into a market, especially if that market does not consider you a trusted source. Blogs can be the first footstep to entering that trusted network as in forums only registered members are allowed.
