Genaral excavation is NOT preferable. If general excavation is done even if not required as per foundation design,the earth filling will be required for the area under floor till the actual excavated depth which will never give the strength at par with the natural fill. This may lead to differential settlement which will ,in turn, lead to cracks in plinth beam and subsequent fall outs.

I am not supporting anything here just explanation

Gen excavation is formation on huge area with grader etc . trench excavation is within some confined space with trimming etc., trench excavation is costly due to the nature of the activity

hence you find the item priced differently

GENERAL EXCAVATION
General excavation by mechanical means, in all types of soil, with necessary manual excavation for dressing the edges and leveling with all lead and lift, carting away the excavated material from the site  to the designated dumping areas approved by the local authorities. Excavation shall be made below the lowest formed level. (backfilling will be paid for under separate item)     (Excavation done by Bucket )
Depth - 0.00 mts to 1.50 mts

Depth - 1.51 mts to 3.00 mts

EXCAVATION IN TRENCHES
Excavation by mechanical / manual means, in all types of soil  for  footings, foundations, retaining walls, core walls, catch pits, lift pits, trenches for drains etc., including necessary manual excavation for dressing the edges and leveling with all lead and lift, carting away the  excavated materials  from the site  to the designated area approved   by the local authorities  (backfilling will be paid for under separate item). (Excavation with Bucket)
Depth - 0.00 mts to 1.50 mts
Depth - 1.51 mts to 3.00 mts

Yes Mr. Bhavesh Kumar, you are right. General excavation done without proper foundation design, it will reduce the strength with the natural fill leading to differential settlement leading to cracks in plinth beam and subsequent fall outs. So, general excavation cannot be preferred.
