The Term "Gifted" Can Be Attributed To An Individual's Specific Talent Like "Great Voice" In Any Specified Field Where As The Term "Talent" Is A General Or A Vague Term And Can Be Attributed To Anyone Ungifted Person Also. Example: 1. A Kishore Kumar Is A "Talented" Actor But "Gifted" With A Melodious Voice ! 2.Human Race Is As "Talented" As Any Other Race But "Gifted" With An Extra-Ordinary Memory !

I tend to agree with akshya and there is subtle difference between gifted and talented and I think the matter has been discussed in detail by Akshaya in his write up, wonderfully.

I agree with Mr. Dingra and Ms. Swapna. Both Gift and Talent are the same. You can say that one is gifted or talented. Or one has been gifted with a particular talent (God has gifted one with a particular talent). The art definitely has to be learnt and since the person is gifted with the talent, he/she would learn fast. However talented person he/she may be, he/she has to nurture the particular art and practice it regularly (daily) to be at the peak. But, as the person is gifted with the talent, maybe lesser practice may do when compared to a non-gifted person. All the same, Practice is a Must. As Bruce Lee stated “I do not fear a person who knows many kicks, but I fear a person who knows one kick and has practiced it a 1000 times daily”. Gifted with the martial art talent, Bruce Lee still had to first learn the art and then practiced it till he died. So is the case with all other highly talented personalities. If Sachin did not learn cricket, his gift of the talent would have been hidden and never exposed. And if he dint practice regularly and strenuously, he may not have been able to reach the heights he has achieved.

These are just jargon invented by a few persons who claim themselves as linguists, while more than 99% people of the world are non-linguists. Talent is a God given gift, which nobody can deny. If we look at the meaning of gifted in any standard dictionary, that clearly conveys the meaning of gifted, as "endowed with natural ability or talent." So, no doubt, both the words - gifted and talented - are synonymous. Gift in itself has no meaning unless associated with something to be given without any charge. People try to use some effective and powerful words write differently what they intend to convey to suit the occasion or circumstance, otherwise they do not intend to communicate different meaning. You may search thesaurus, that tell you only about synonyms or antonyms of a word, not any different meaning. We use the what actually our mind try to adopt. What I feel appropriate word the other person may feel that as an inappropriate word. So, there should not be any need just to follow linguistics blindly. We just need to follow what grammatically is correct to convey the real sense of any sentence.
