GM India,  apart of the American carmaker General Motors Corporation, is in advanced talks with the leading electric car manufacturing company, Bangalore-based Reva Electric Car Company, for a technical collaboration and a joint venture.  GM India will source electric vehicle technology from Reva to roll out electric variants of its Chevrolet Spark small car in India and select overseas markets.

The two companies will be entering a 50:50 joint venture which is currently awaiting the green signal from GM’s Detroit headquarters. If the JV goes through, it will be GM’s first deal since it filed for bankruptcy and was also in the bailout scheme of things.

So what do you think guys will this collaboration bear fruits for both GM and REVA? share your thoughts on this.

I think this JV will do good for both GM and Reva for that matter, Reva which recently came up with 2 new models of electric vehicles for india and overseas market the Reva NXG and Reva NXR which also wants to get a strong foothold in the overseas arena and then General motors which is also coming up with its "Chevy Volt" which is also a electric car is focussing on  alternate fuel technology. So with this JV GM India will be finalising the deal on spark the electric vehicle. It is good that Car manufacturers are going for alternate fuel technology as everybody is going green it will do more good in the coming days. And also many other companies like sToyota, Nissan and Honda all are  queued up with this technology, which will be the future of cars.

I agree with Kailash that the collaboration can be successful. But i guess the the electric cars should be exported too. The plans of building a 5 seater electric car is based on the current Chevrolet spark model but not the next generation Spark (Chevrolet Beat concept).

GM has been able to gain good share in small car segment thru its SPARK. An option of electric engine will boost its sales. Reva on the other hand too stands to benefit from this.

This if works out it will be definitely a compatible marriage between GM and REVA. In my personal opinion , India now has to seriously thinking about dumping problem ( China is already in soup, watch it in BBC or CNN). But nonetheless , Yes, it will still hold , 'Small cars' and without Petrol/Diesel. Good one definitely for people too. Iam happy that my belief that a R & D done by any company in India or anywhere will not go waste. I dont claim its useful because GM wants to collabrate but it didnot go waste because its able to come into customers with all needed factors : 1. Simplicity , economical, Aesthetic and defintely fame(Social status ), I think GM will create this factors of Aesthetic and fame for the buyer , while REVA catches up with technology and Made In India. I will wait to see if this is going to another story like CADBURYS India, which lofted of with PERKS.

Good news finally Kailash , I agree with you.

I agree with Mr. Kailash that JV will do good for both GM and Reva.
